Blue Wave over Houston
« on: September 20, 2019, 03:25:03 PM »
I watched the last quarter of the Tulane-Houston game last night.  Enjoyed that about as much as I've enjoyed any game in quite a while.

The Tulane Blue Wave (yes, they were wearing blue uniforms that looked like North Carolina) beat the Houston Cougars in a most entertaining way on the same night the city of Houston was being deluged by actual rain-induced waves of water.  That was oddly interesting to start.

But let's pick up the action late in the fourth quarter.

With 6:10 left, the Tulaners complete an improbable comeback from a 28-7 second quarter deficit, sneaking a field goal over just over the upright to take a 31-28 lead.

Houston gets the ball back and commences a clock mauling drive, eventually grinding inside the Tulane 5.  They got help with a ridiculous roughness call to keep the drive alive.  THREE referees standing right on top of the play do nothing but some dude from halfway across the field calls it.  The drive dies on a quality stop at the four and with 21 seconds left Houston ties it up with a short field goal.

Tulane fields the squib kick and kneels at their own 29 with like 18 seconds left.   The Waves line up in victory formation, seemingly intent to take a knee and go into overtime.  But wait!  It's a trap!  One of the backs actually takes the ball and hauls butt around the end, going out of bounds near midfield with less than ten seconds left.  On the next snap, the Tulane QB launches a ball down field.  It lands in the arms of a Wave receiver as a trio of Cougar defenders carom off each other.  Into the endzone with three seconds left goes the Wave receiver.  Game.

I don't like Tulane necessarily and I don't hate Houston.  I just didn't much care and it was enjoyable to watch one team celebrate like that.

Watched the whole thing myself.  Damn good game from start to finish.  I'm like you, don't care about either.  But, it's actually good to see Tulane have the athletes to compete.  They may win that conference.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

And the more they win, the better our non-conference schedule looks.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Not in a deluge. A cougar doesn't stand a chance in torrential rains.
