I'm guessing that within 5-10 years, the game will be reduced to 7 on 7 Flag Football. I think somebody posted on the new rules for college foosballz a while back, but I just heard them discussed on the radios this morning, so I'm not going in search. A few:
Going back to knee pads that fully cover the knee. No biggee, but I had noticed a lot of players had gone away from knee pads completely.
Blocking below the waist is only allowed between the tackles. So, you can cut the man in front of you in the trenches, but as soon as the ball gets outside the tackle box, blocking below the waist is a penalty. That's pretty significant because you see that all the time. The D-lineman will turn to pursue and he gets cut. Not any more.
I don't recall reading this one but the talk show host said they also eliminated the peel back blocks. So, when you a runner reverse his field and the defender gets de-cleated when he turns to pursue....flag.
Fair catching on a kickoff anywhere inside the 25 automatically moves the ball up to the 25. That's big too because a lot of teams try and pin a team in the corner on a kickoff.
The 40 second play clock starts right after a TD. So, no prolonged celebrations. Run the field goal team on immediately for the extra point.
Funny how they've done some other play clock things to speed up the game, but the reality is, I imagine there's going to be a butt load more flags now. In the NFL, they've gone even softer on the QB's. You literally can't finish a tackle/sack anymore. If it's deemed that you put a little extra sump'n sump'n into the tackle, it's a flag for you and yours.
I get safety and all that, but the game is changing pretty rapidly and to the point where pads really won't be necessary.
