People are depraved.
My first wife was treated horribly by her mother (who was an addict) -- to the point that she stole a car when she was 15, took her 13 year old sister and ran away. Her mom lost custody of them both and they stayed with her grandmother. She had not seen her mother from the day she ran away until a month after we got married.
When she died, her mother tried to take me to court to get "her rightful share" of the insurance.
She got nothing.
