I'm hanging up my AU-ness.  Spent most of my life wearing my allegiance proudly.  Car tag, window stickers. I've bought enough Auburn stuff to fill a NBA player's closet in my lifetime. 

Enough.

Part of it is the Saban/Bama factor.  I'm so sick of them that it drains every ounce of fun out of the season.  And now UGA is just as bad. 

Even when we beat them both -- and do it convincingly -- it doesn't matter.  It's like it never happened.  It meant nothing. 

I just don't care any more.  I haven't been wholly invested in years now.  I don't like the constant feeling of helplessness/hopelessness that seems to be part of the natural state. It weighs on me. It wears on me.  Being an Auburn fan has always been a part of my identity.  I'm tired now.  Tired of hearing shit from Bama fans and Georgia fans and whatever. 

I hate Nick Saban.  He's as much responsible for this depression as anything.  It would be easier to take if they weren't so protected

It's just not fun any more.  None of it is.  I never thought I'd say that.

No.  Not at all. 

I've done this for more than 50 years.  I wore my AU stuff through Shug's last hurrah. Through the Barfield years. Through "keep it down home, cuz." Through the Bowden implosion.  Through Jetgate. Through Cheesy Jay and the Jumbotron. Through Tommy's ignominious departure. Through Shacket and the 0-8ers.

When AU wore Russell, I bought Russell gear.  When we switched to UA, so did I.  I've got at least a dozen AU hats in my closet now.  At least as many polos. Eight sweatshirts.  You could clothe a small Caribbean nation with the AU gear I've bought over the years. My office walls and desk are covered in AU paintings, pictures, ticket stubs, bobble heads, footballs, baseballs, bats and other assorted gear.  My truck has an AU tag on the back, an AU tag on the front, a window sticker and silver logos under the F150 on the front.  My golf bag is an AU bag.  My putter has an AU grip. My wedges have AU shafts. 

Too much.

All I'm saying is that all my life I've been Kaos, Auburn fan.  I'm gonna just be Kaos for a while.

I've never really been "All Auburn All Orange And Blue", I have a metal AU decal on the back of my car. That's about as far as I go. I have gone into the Jasper Wal-Marks with a Auburn shirt just to see the mouth breather meth heads get all irritated (that's always good for a laugh).
