Two things:

I think if not for his sudden ascent to speaker of the house this winter he may have ran.

I also think he is a lot of what people don't like in DC. Not that he isn't pragmatic or a nice honest guy but he comes across as a politician at times and people are saying no to anyone who even remotely resembles that. Including Ryan, Cruz and Rubio.

Exactly.

Him grand standing Trump after he won the nomination was bullshit. He is what is wrong with the party. They make a career out of public office and think they don't serve the people.

I think that by "grand standing" he was serving the 60% of voters who voted against Trump.

I get that and I agree people are tired of career politics.

All of that aside, everything he said last night is what I want to hear from the leaders in our country.  He was very clear, articulate, and communicated exactly what the goals were.

He's comparing your position to influential works of literature from the Spanish Golden Age.

Personally, I don't get it either but K is a deep thinker.

I agree. And generally like Paul Ryan. And others as well. But unfortunately he resembles just enough of a politician to get lumped in with the rest of the DC ilk. At this point no matter how reasonable you are and how much you've tried to do good up there, you are going to be labeled establishment even if you aren't. The voters have rejected anything closely resembling establishment. If you look at the primary, of the top 6 vote getters, 4 maybe 5 of them were considered outsiders to some degree (Trump, Carson, Cruz, maybe Rubio although some would argue Rubio). And even a few of those were labeled as such once it got down to the end as compared to Trump. Kasich was really the only one of the last 6 standing that was truly an establishment guy at his roots. Bush was the other one in the race. 90% of voters voted for someone besides those two.

Doesn't help either that he's forever tied to Romney.

It's more contempt for them continuing the same tradition of talking the talk and not walking the walk once elected, regardless of how educated and qualified they may be. People finally got sick of it enough this year to where Trump became their pick because at least they felt like he spoke their language and walked the walk in his actions (in his business career - agree with it or not). He said things they only said at home to their TVs in disgust and that other politicians won't dare say with the exception of a few. Not saying I agree or disagree with his tactics or even all his views - just explaining why he is where he's at.

With the exception of Rand Paul, Trey Gowdy, Mike Lee or Ted Cruz - can anyone name a legislator up there worth a shit that has actually taken a stance on something worthwhile?

And even if they did take a hard line stance on anything, no one believes it's anything more than lip service.  I just google chromed a few pieces on Hellary's stance on illegal immigration.  She's for "Comprehensive immigration reform".  We need comprehensive reform that will 'help keep families together and help the economy."

All I heard was "I don't have any plan except to let every illegal immigrant here, stay here."  If elected, she'll do exactly what every other politician will/would do and exactly what I said in another thread.  She'll go to the border at some point.  Meet with a few mayors, governors, sheriffs.  Take a lot of pictures and then make a speech about how "We need comprehensive immigration reform".

That's every single politicians M.O. for illegal immigration and just about every other issue we face.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.
