Hell, Ain't Nobody Got To Throw It
« on: October 08, 2015, 12:16:47 PM »
Translation:  We need to get in the weight room so we can stop getting punked every play.  #uknowthedot I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!!  I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others.  I like male genatalia in and around my mouth.

Will Muschamp is concerned and he's not holding back.

Auburn's defensive coordinator called his defensive line and linebackers the strength of the defense in the preseason. Five weeks into the season, the brunt of his ire is now focused on his defensive line.

When asked about Auburn's struggles in the secondary, Muschamp instead reverted attention to the front seven.

"Hell, ain't nobody got to throw it," he said. "I wouldn't."

Auburn is allowing 221.8 yards on the ground in four games against FBS opponents, including a seven-year best performance against Mississippi State, which amassed only 56 rushing yards on Sept. 26.

There are big issues along the defensive line and at linebacker, where the Tigers rank 107th nationally in rush defense.

"It is what it is," Muschamp said. "You turn the tape on. You've got to play blocks. You've got to play double teams. You've got to play to keep people off the linebackers. Linebacker has to take on blocks in the core of the formation. You've got to leverage the formation. There are so many things that we need to improve. That's something we have to continue to strive and get the right combination of guys that can do that."

Auburn's pass defense has been suspect at times, though the Tigers did step up late against San Jose State last week. Freshman Carlton Davis picked off a pass to help seal the 35-21 victory. The Tigers rank 29th nationally against FBS opponents in pass defense (183.8 yards).

The lack of a pass rush has also hurt the Tigers. Carl Lawson's injury in the season opener has hurt Auburn at its hybrid Buck position, where Cassanova McKinzy started his first game last week.

"We need to continue to improve on playing blocks up front in our front seven," Muschamp said. "That's something we've been very poor at to this point of the year. I'm disappointed with our progress as far as that is concerned. It's been very inconsistent across the board."

It could be that this is strategy. The whole thing could be ingenious. Pretending like we are terrible at stopping the run, then when the thugs come to town, clamp down on them like a vice. Hold Chubb to his season low in yards. Everything may actually be a complete ruse, from JJ throwing it to the other team, ot with jax state and the losses. All a set up so that we can surprise folks in Amen corner.

Damn fine coaching strategy.

Some of Muschamp's takes from another piece.  You gotta' admit, you rarely hear a coach be as candid as he is.  He pretty much tells it like it is.  However, I think he's a little hard on Jaun'tavious.  Calling him a zero is hurtful.  BTW....what does that even mean?

•On what the defense is working on this week: Fundamentals, points of emphasis, shedding blocks, etc.
•"You need to address the things you're not doing well and we're just not playing well in the front seven."
•Calls front seven "very poor" with shedding blocks and has been "very disappointed" with "very inconsistent" progress on those topics
•Cassanova McKinzy "made some plays" in first start at Buck. "Everything was totally new" for him. Got some pressure 1-on-1.
•Tre' Williams and Tim Irvin (bone bruise, foot) are expected back at Kentucky
•Carlton Davis doing well. On TD he was beat on, not a lot Davis could do, was in position to make a play.
•On T.J. Davis: "Another guy that (could) be able to go in the fold."
•Byron Cowart is "playing very well" in ~20 snaps per game
•Says Cowart is someone who is very hard on himself and getting freshmen to understand they can play well without having production is always a challenge
•On another 400-yard performance: "Certainly not something I'm used to" and not something they want anyone to be accustomed to
•Jaun'tavius Johnson is closer to playing, considered a zero
•Says Devaroe Lawrence and Maurice Swain need to improve

I bet Auburn holds Chubb to zero yards rushing. UGA's second string RB, Sony Michel...yeah, he'll run all down our throats just like Fournette did and just like Alex Collins and Derrick "Trigger Fish" Henry will.

Not so fast. Chubb may be on crutches but this is our defense that we're talking about.
