It's been strangely quiet around here on the Black Bears being investigated. Maybe it's a situation where everyone is sitting back and seeing where it goes. Just a little smoke and no fire or maybe just a "He said, He said" deal that won't materialize into anything.
Personally, I think it could blow up if someone "inside" has an axe to grind. For those not paying attention, the gist of what's going on so far is that 5 star O-lineman, Laremy Tunsil got into a scrap with step dad. Both filed domestic violence charges on each other. But step dad claims the flare up started over Tunsil hanging out with and riding around with sports agents. Step Diddy is making claims of payments etc. from said sports agents, among other things. And apparently, the NCAA is taking it seriously.
Not to be a hippo-krit, because I'm a firm believer that everyone at this level is ridin' dirty. Some more ....and others way more than the rest. And from the outside looking in, it appears that since Freeze came to town, the Black Bears have decided to step up their game in that area. You simply don't go from perennial cellar dweller dating all the way back to the late 60's, to suddenly pulling in top talent year after year. What changed? A new corch with no real head corching experience? Don't think so.
If the NCAA sets up camp like they did at our beloved AU, will they uncover some serious violations? I heard a comment today that it's very possible the NCAA might be trying to take back some power and control. They've already been exposing the Tar Heels and may be looking for an opportunity to hammer someone and get some of their teeth back. It is Shark Week after all. But just now, as I was typing this, the answer became clear. It struck me that Ole Miss beat Bama last season. They don't like Ole Miss beating them.
