Ft. Rucker was spared compared to what they anticipated.  Only reducing by 186.  I understand Ft. Benning will lose 3,400.  What a blow to the community.  Exactly how do they go about the reduction?  Do they discharge them?  Do they get retirement, severance pay etc.?

Force reductions are done in many ways. Promotion scores are set so high that only a few make it and the rest are forced out. NCO'S and officers both. They also just deny anybody that has had any kind of trouble. What you then get is like when I was in the 101st. Unit strength of about 60% of a rapid deployment unit.
