Business is always personal
« on: September 03, 2015, 09:54:30 AM »
When you sit back and wonder why certain members of the media seem biased against Auburn, the reasons aren't always obvious.  But then again, sometimes light gets shed on those perceptions.

"I have no doubt in my mind that Bobby Petrino would have been Auburn's coach if they had kept the meeting quiet," said Yahoo! Sports reporter Pat Forde, who uncovered Auburn and Petrino's plan during his stint with the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Honestly though, hindsight being 20-20 kinda glad he did.

Agreed. Even though Auburn had to endure some awful seasons here and there, we got to witness an undefeated season and a NC. Not saying Petrino would have still been at Auburn but I think Auburn is in a lot better position currently compared to what I think it would have turned out to be with Petrino.

Not questioning that, but given his situation at the time, I think this predisposes him to have a neagative opinion of Auburn and to look for instances where the program may be dancing around the edges of the law.

Don't disagree but why again are we questioning Forde?  Because of the remark about Cam regarding Chizik?

Because I went back and read the article again and I really didn't make his quote out to be a blast on Cam taking money, I read it more on Chizik getting lucky to have Cam.  Which let's face it he was, we weren't even recruiting Cam.

Forde has said a lot of bullshit about Auburn over the years. In fact, if Thamel and Thayer are on the 1st tier of epic journalist douchebags, I'd put Forde on the 2nd tier with his fingertips just reaching the bottom of the next step up.

Following his season under Tuberville,  Petrino became one of the hottest offensive commodities in college football. He was going to win games. How many? Who knows, but I think we could have counted on getting 9 or more wins per season depending on what kind of defense we put on the field. I wanted him on the heels of Chizik's demise. Didn't care so much about his image and the names thrown out there for the Auburn job were laughable by comparison...except one, which turned out to be a high school wizzard that got jacked around by Nutt and at least by my estimation, began wilting as our OC. That bothered me because I don't see Petrino as the type to be bullied by anyone.

It's only now that I see that Auburn made out fine even though we have yet to play the type of defense to keep us competing at least for SEC titles. Muschamp is an alpha. We do not know how this will play out much less if it can last even a few years. But I still think Petrino was the best HC for Auburn at the time of the infamous clandestine planegate and the correct hire over Malzahn. The results prove me wrong but our late season meltdown has me thinking Gus the Coordinator/ Gus the Head Coach. And it may be the addition of Muschamp will wash all of those thoughts away and at least buy us more years of championship caliber football.

We certainly have the nicer of the two with Gus minus all of the negatives associated with BFP.

That expose' was a tag team deal with Jay Tate (with the Montgomery Crapetiser at the time) - forde can have the blame, but shouldn't get all the credit

This.

He's proven multiple times that he'll jump in with both feet if he thinks he can get something on AU.  Find a negative story and you'll likely find a Forde tweet or comment passing it on or with some head-shaking comment.

I wasn't aware that he'd even written anything recently.   More looking at his track record in recent years.

I've seen the guy up close, in Auburn.  He'd LOVE to have something program-wrecking to come up.  Would make his shorts bulge.

But some of our fans, and even a few in the Athetic Dept actually trust this douchenozzle (Tate) for some reason. He's pathetic. Its the whole "maybe if were nice to him, he won't write slanderous shit about us". Just Evan Woodbury pretending to be a real fan. With all of his faults and ramblings, I would take PM anyday over Tate - at least I know his heart is in the right place as a beat writer. Joel Erickson is pretty decent too.

The new AU beat writer guy for the Cols Ledger Enquirer is from Michigan and his first article a week or two ago was the WSJ "The Athletics Dept paid to keep a crappy football player major" story. Fail dude....big fail.

I don't know about any of that - to me, Tate always seemed arms-length impartial, but not skeptical much less subversive.  Now that he is not at the paper and is actually tied-in to one of the pay sites, I don't see how what you describe would make any sense for him financially

I havent seen his shit since he's went to "pay to see it". Im sure he has to be now. I know when he was at Montgomery Adv, he was unbearable at times. And for that and what you mentioned, I'll never trust the guy.

If what you were saying were the case, there would be no need for the "(ahem)". Pretty clear that he was implying that luck had nothing to do with it, money did.

Quote
That expectation comes with Chizik, who was a very good defensive coordinator before he became a very bad head coach who happened to luck (ahem) into Cam Newton at Auburn.
