The Tigers are experimenting, too. Auburn rotated three groups with nothing but defensive tackles comprising the front four of Johnson's 4-2-5 defense in the Tigers' first scrimmage of the spring Saturday. The look is quite the opposite from the groups Wright watched from the bench in 2010."We talked about this in my early years, when I was on the bench and they had the cheetahs out there: Nosa (Eguae), Corey Lemonier and all those little guys," Wright said.Gabe Wright, who returns as the team's most productive player at tackle (31 tackles, 8.5 for losses), has an idea -- and he made sure to pass it along to position coach Rodney Garner -- what the personnel used this spring should be called."Now it's time to get the Rhino package," said Wright, whose Twitter handle is NineORhino. "I believe in that."Coaches are not tipping their hand, but Wright believes the four-tackle look could be useful against teams that use two tight-end sets (Arkansas, LSU and Alabama) next season. The Tigers' defensive front picked up at least two would-be sacks during their scrimmage Saturday (quarterbacks are off limits from contact)."The fact that we could go maybe four D-tackles at one point, that just amazes me," Wright said. "It’s kind of like, 'What do you do?'"Auburn tight end C.J. Uzomah certainly believes it could add a different element to the Tigers' defensive attack."That is something completely different than blocking against a guy like Dee, who is extremely quick and fast," Uzomah said. "Blocking against someone like Gabe and Montravius (Adams), they are hosses."The Tigers could also go with a four-man defensive front by using nothing but Georgia natives: Jeffrey Whitaker, Ben Bradley and Adams. That group weighs in at a total of 1,215 pounds and only Wright, who dropped 12 pounds in the offseason, weighs less than 300.Full Article Here:http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2014/03/a_crash_of_rhinos_auburn_exper.html#incart_river
Would love to see defenses run on that!
"Screen pass.""Oh shit!"
