An NCAA vice president approved a five-figure payment to the attorney of Miami booster Nevin Shapiro to obtain information in its Miami infractions investigation, two sources with knowledge of the arrangement told CBSSports.com.

In the report, sources said enforcement director Julie Roe Lach discussed and approved the payment of at least $20,000 in October-November 2011.
The NCAA is already conducting an external review investigating what it called “improper conduct” when its enforcement department gained access to a witness deposed by Shapiro’s attorney, Maria Elena Perez, in order to gain evidence of NCAA infractions in a separate bankruptcy proceeding.

So she was willing to pay people to find out information?

I mean, shit, imagine how close we could have been to being screwed over by someone taking $20k to provide some flimsy evidence that shows Cam being paid.

Curious as to why the NCAA paid out the 20k. I thought the Yahoo! article with Shapiro gave the NCAA all the info they needed to hit the nuke button?

So she was willing to pay people to find out information?

Report: NCAA fires vice president of enforcement over Miami investigation
Jon Solomon | jsolomon@al.com By Jon Solomon | jsolomon@al.com
on February 18, 2013 at 12:05 PM

The NCAA has fired its vice president of enforcement, Julie Roe Lach, prior to releasing a report detailing the NCAA's abuse of power while investigating the University of Miami, Yahoo! Sports reported today.

Yahoo! reported that Roe Lach's dismissal stems from her approving an improper financial relationship between an NCAA investigator and an attorney of former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro. The NCAA is scheduled to release an external report later today with the findings of a review into the NCAA's enforcement program.

CBSSports.com first reported that Roe Lach approved the disbursement of at least $20,000 for Perez to ask questions pertaining to the Shapiro case during a deposition. ESPN.com reported that NCAA general counsel Donald Remy knew of the arrangement with Perez, although NCAA President Mark Emmert has said Remy was not aware of the use of Perez.

Emmert hand-picked Roe Lach for the head enforcement position in 2010 when David Price retired. Emmert and Roe Lach talked often about cracking down on major rules violators. Roe Lach had been the NCAA's director of enforcement since 2004 and joined the NCAA in 1998.

An anonymous NCAA investigator told the Florida Sun-Sentinel that working with outside agencies to gather evidence has been common practice. The NCAA doesn't have subpoena power to compel witnesses to speak.

"A lot of us are asking, 'Why was such a big deal made of this one situation?'" the anonymous investigator told the Sun-Sentinel. "And no one can answer the question. It's all strange to us. We're confused."

All of this just reinforces my conclusion that Auburn and Cam truly were clean.

The bama fans and other detractors always ended their bloviating on the Cam topic with: "Well, we'll never know nothin cuz the NCAA cain't suppena nobody.  But you jest know dem Aubs cheated."

Well, it turns out that Lache and the NCAA probably had their checkbooks out trying to drum up any bit of credible evidence and found....fuck all.

Ha, fuck them in the spleen.

So, I'm wondering, what would Lach gain from approving such a payment? Is there a return on this money? Does the NCAA get paid for busting schools for cheating? They do place some hefty fines I do believe. Damn man, this could get real nasty for the NCAA.

They cover ass better than Jordache, man. I just wonder what pro-Bammer they will appoint in her place and when Auburn will be under the microscope again.  :taunt:

Nothing will surprise me at this point concerning the NCAA but I would have to say this one will be hard to just sweep aside. Too many big time programs have been under the microscope of the NCAA to let that happen.
