So what happens to Cam now?
« on: November 11, 2010, 02:03:26 PM »
Kiper () and McShay both say it would have helped Cam immensely to come back to Auburn for his senior season and get another year under his belt - would have probably guaranteed him first round and a HUGE difference in money between coming out next year and come back to Auburn for another year.  But now he may be forced to come out a year ahead of plan.

It would seem to me that him choosing to come back next year would be the biggest "FUCK YOU" he could do to anyone accusing him of anything.  Not that jumping to the NFL is necessarily an admission of guilt, but coming back to Auburn for his senior year would be the biggest sign of all that he is innocent.  If he thought that anything - ANYTHING - that may have happened might jeopardize his eligibility and cause him to lose a year of playing ball, then why in the world would he come back?  He is eligible to play at Auburn - and only he knows if that eligibility will hold up under investigation - so I think that coming back would certify to all but the most delusional among the media that he has done nothing wrong.

I'm in full agreement about him needing another year.  Let me clarify from an Auburn fan standpoint, yeah, who wouldn't want the best player in college football to come back?  And from this fan's standpoint, I've long since resigned myself to the fact that he's gone.

Objectively though, my expert analysis says he needs another year to hone his passing skillz.  Everyone and dey mama know he won't be running to this extent in the NFL.  Yes, it will be a weapon fo sho, but they ALL grown ass men in the NFL.  He's got all the physical skills and the arm to play at that level but we've also all seen him fail to see wide open receivers and throw off the back foot way too much.  Fixable with pro coaching?  Sure.

I have to admit though, his passing game has improved 100% since the start ofd the season.  Everytime he throws a strike I go, "Damn, that was pretty....but damn, he's so gone".

There's two big problems with this post.

1.  Kiper is wrong a lot.

2.  McShay was outted for being a fraud last season.  If anyone has the article where numerous guys from the NFL went on record talking about how McShay is full of shit and without sources, it would fit nicely in this thread.

Look... ignore "my sources"... but I had the same idea all by my own widdle self this morning.

More than one person has said he needs another year to work on passing.  Even ole Verne said he was raw talent that needed polishing.  So the question I was trying to discuss was whether or not an innocent Cam would choose to come back.

Sorry.  I just wanted to bust on McShay because I think he's a douchebag.

But yeah, I agree.  I've said all along that Cam Newton needs to work on his passing game.  He is an incredible runner, but most runners don't succeed in the NFL.

Of course, there will be some organizations that draft Cam high because of his ability to sell jerseys and electrify a stadium.

So my prediction is that he takes off for the money.  Legally this time.

There's that too.

And they say that is more than likely(Dallas radio).  Owners are going to try and get back what they gave up last time. Could get nasty.

Must be true-I heard it on the radio.  :moon:

AGAIN...

(1) What does a not-innocent Cam do?  He knows if he stays at Auburn, the investigation will find whatever he did wrong and he loses eligibility and sits out a year, a year that will cost him in terms of first round signing money or the ability to sign at all (not probable but go with it)  He would have to PRAY that the NFL and the NFLPA come to an agreement and there is no lockout.  Then he says the bullshit is just too much and runs like a scalded dawg.

(2) What does an innocent Cam do?  He can jump to the NFL, but he may not go as high (read, less $$) because there will only be as many as 14 game films for scouts to watch.  Not that those are not impressive, but most agree he needs work. I am saying that if I am an innocent Cam, the benefits of coming back for his senior year, including but not limited to, the opportunity to skull-fuck FL and MSU, FAR outweigh the benefits of jumping ship, assuming no lockout, which makes all this moot.

He could just be tired of all the poop going on and less money may be worth it.    His endorsment power has taken a hit already.
