So what's the general consensus for Lebo?

I have no idea if he is a good coach, but he doesn't win. If he doesn't take us to the big dance next year he is out like a fat kid in dodge ball. I like emoticons

I doubt this is the consensus, but 4-12, 4-12, 7-9, 4-12 tells me about as much as I want to know. 

Look at Tennessee. Good article I read somewhere about how everybody from Dean Smith to Pat Summit was praising their former coach and begging for him to stay.  Making excuses for him as to why the Vols were not performing. The president wrestled with the decision, fired him anyway and hired Bruce Pearl.  Look at them now. 

My contention is that good coaches find a way to win.  I'm no great coach, but when I was coaching high school I took over a girls softball team that had won six games total in the previous five years.  We had no talent, not a single pitcher who'd ever been trained. No hitters. No speed. But we won 16 games the first year and made the state tournament the next. I could have pissed and moaned about what we didn't have and excused loss after loss. Nobody would have blamed or doubted me.  I didn't.  Good coaches win regardless of the circumstances. 4-12, 4-12, 7-9, 4-12.

Up until about a month ago, I was all for keeping Lebo.  I was towing the party line about the injuries and lack of depth.  Then we go and lose 11 out of our last 13, and that just doesn't cut it when you are 4 years deep into your tenure at a school. 

Right now, I'm about 50/50 on whether or not he should stay.  Part of me says give him another year and let's see what he can do with a full roster of players, and another part of me thinks we should drop him like a bad habit and move on to the next guy.  Either way, this season's over with, and this bitter taste in my mouth will be gone by the time the NCAA Tournament rolls around.

I have been a big supporter of Lebo since he was hired but I must admit that my support is fading rapidly.  There are all sorts of excuses but the bottom line is we are not getting it done.  The hangman has built the gallows and waiting with baited breath.

Does one make-the-dance season render 4-12. 4-12, 7-9, 4-12 any more palatable?  Does it change anything?   If AU had been even 4-12, 6-10, 7-9, 6-10 I might have a completely different opinion.  And if the SEC had not been such a dismal league this season I might feel differently.  But Georgia sucked. South Carolina sucked. Alabama sucked. LSU sucked.  And we lost, what, four times to that raggedy bunch?

I see what you are saying and it is a valid point that is hard to argue against. I've just always felt that continuity in a program is one of the most underrated things you can have going for you. (Although I admit it matters less in basketball than football)

I'm just a glass half full kind of guy, so if he gets to the tournament next year, I'll take it as a sign that we have turned the corner...whether it is true or not.

Our local sports talk guy, Phil Paramore, brought up a great point this morning and is something he's been harping on for quite a while.  I believe Neal McCready wrote something to this effect as well.  Lebo does ZERO P.R.  He's never been to our neck of the woods that I know of, speaking, meeting with coaches or promoting AU basketball.  Most people wouldn't know the guy if he walked in their door right now. 

Paramore said that Tuberville's job was saved in 03' more than anything else because of the groundwork he had laid in getting Auburn people on his side.  The overwhelming majority of Auburn folks were concerned about what was going on with the program, but we just plain liked the guy and wanted him to succeed.  CTT has always been consistent with the speaking engagements, public appearances, glad handing and basically talking up Auburn Football.  When a disgruntled few in the administration tried the hatchet job, the fanbase would have none of it.

What have you ever heard Jeff Lebo do or say concerning Auburn Basketball?  Make excuses?  Yeah, and what else?  I would take that analogy a step further and apply it to Nick Saban.  There's no disputing that this guy is a tool bag to everyone around him.  He has one choice..win big or get the hell out because no one at Alabama is going to stand up for this guy if he continues to have problems.  In my view, Lebo has next year to get to the dance...not the NIT...the Big Dance.  If not, time to move on.

You do have a point Kaos but I am of the opinion that a make-the-dance season does, in fact, change things after a bad run; just like one phenomenal play in a game that up to that point is not going well changes the momentum...not only of the team, but the fans too.

I won't try to rationalize Coach Lebo's past record...it is what it is...just my opinion but I'd say give him just another chance.
