I am in 100% agreement with Saban on this one. It drives me nuts to see what Saban is talking about here, and it doesn't bother me that he is saying it. I say the exact same shit all the time. That's how my dad taught me to play the game. That's what I did. I'll be damn if I would have laid on the ground. I would crawl off before I let the trainers come out. I will teach my son the same thing. I teach him that now. If he falls off his bike, I don't run over there to baby him. I teach him to get his own self up and brush it off and go again. It's the same concept. Mentally tough. Kids today aren't taught that.
Yes - kids today are pussies. You catch a cramp, then running it off the field is a good thing. And I am the same way with my kids - fall down? Skin your knee? Get up, rub some dirt on it and get back out there. Unless there is bone sticking out, or blood gushing, no tears allowed. But they are kids playing a kids game - this is just for fun.
BUT... if you have NOTHING but your legitimate athletic ability, if you are COUNTING on playing on Sundays to make something of and for yourself, you are DAMN RIGHT I am gonna make the trainers assure me that the tweak I felt in my kneee was just a twinge and not a ripped ACL. What if Zac Ethridge had just tried to jump up and run off? He could have died. But i guess he would be tough...
Running off the field with a leg broken in three places. WTF ever, bitch.
