Auburn's A.J. Greene is out for the season with injury; Tigers looking for more tailback yardsPublished: Sunday, September 19, 2010, 5:30 PM Updated: Sunday, September 19, 2010, 5:55 PMCharles Goldberg -- The Birmingham News Auburn offensive lineman A.J. Greene is out for the year with an ankle injury, and that's opened the door for John Sullen and others heading into Saturday's home game against South Carolina.Greene suffered a broken left ankle in the fourth quarter. He was taken off the field on a cart. Greene won the starting right tackle job leading up to the start of the season. He joined four senior starters in the offensive line.Chizik, who seldom discusses the specifics of injuries or the length players may be out, said "it doesn't look like he's going to be returning this year."Sullen filled in for Greene. Brandon Mosley may also be at the position this week."We'll reevaluate it all. We have to see where we're going with that,'' Chizik said.Chizik said Sullen did OK."For the circumstances and how quick unfolded, I think he played well,'' he said.**Mario Fannin didn't play in Auburn's 27-24 win over Clemson on Saturday because of a bad shoulder. Chizik didn't say if Fannin would be available for South Carolina. It looks as if Fannin, the No. 1 tailback going into the season, will switch back to his receiving role out of the backfield. He was second on the team in catches last year."The great thing about Mario is that he has a great deal of flexibility to do several things,'' Chizik said. ``He's up for whatever helps the offense. "We're going to put him where it best suits us and him."**Chizik said tailback Onterio McCalebb is "OK" after taking a big hit in the fourth quarter.**Chizik said Mike Dyer did well as the No. 1 tailback, but "I think our tailback running game is lacking. There were some things that we did well. Certainly, not enough of it. We're going to try to get a tailback running game established. We have to do that."**Down 17-0, Auburn scored 24 unanswered points against Clemson. That was good, but..."We're going to have to up our level of game. We're starting too slow,'' Chizik said. "In this league, it's going to be difficult to come back and win. We'll have to play with more passion and energy to win."**Auburn has four freshman linebackers, but Chizik said the Tigers are still relying too much on senior Josh Bynes."He's still playing too many snaps,'' Chizik said.Senior linebacker Craig Stevens, who started after a two-game suspension, played "a lot of snaps," too, Chizik said.**Freshman Trovon Reed made his college debut three games into the season as the Wildcat quarterback after being slowed with a bum knee. He played two played. Chizik said he'd like to see more of Reed."We hope so,'' Chizik said. "We'd like for him to play some wideout and extend his role some. He's just got to stay healthy."[/quote
