Title: Looks like Bobby Johnson is Quitting at Vandy
Post by: AUTailgatingRules on July 14, 2010, 12:18:47 PM
No link, but read on another site that the media in Nashville is reporting that Johnson is resigning.  Kind of wierd this close to the season.  Hope it is not a health thing.

Sources: Vandy coach plans to resign

Vanderbilt's Bobby Johnson has told school officials that he plans to step down as football coach, multiple sources said Wednesday.

A news conference has been scheduled for 2 p.m. ET at Vanderbilt, where Johnson is expected to announce the reason for his resignation.

Johnson's impending resignation was also reported by Nashville's 104.5 FM The Zone on Wednesday morning.

Johnson, who turned 60 earlier this year, is tied for the fourth most wins in the history of the program, although the Commodores are coming off their first winless season in the SEC since Johnson's first season at Vanderbilt in 2002.

The Commodores had experienced a resurgence under Johnson and won their first bowl game in 53 years during the 2008 season, when they defeated Boston College in the Music City Bowl. Johnson was named SEC Coach of the Year that season.

Johnson's career record at Vanderbilt is 29-66.

Bruce Fowler, who was Johnson's assistant head coach for defense, and Robbie Caldwell, Johnson's assistant head coach and offensive line coach, are seen as possible interim replacements.

Johnson was hired as Vanderbilt's coach in 2001, after leading Furman University to the Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA) national championship game.

In 2008, Johnson produced one of the sport's greatest turnarounds, leading the Commodores to a 5-0 start and a national ranking. Vanderbilt upset then-No. 24 South Carolina 24-17 on the road and defeated No. 14 Auburn 14-13 at home to climb as high as No. 13 in the national polls.

The Commodores lost six of their last seven regular-season games, before beating Boston College 16-14 in the Gaylord Music City Bowl in Nashville -- the second bowl victory in school history.

2-10 and 0-8 in SEC should get the ball rolling at any school...except maybe Vandy. And 29 wins is the 4th most wins in the history of Vandy's coaches?

They belong in the ACC and have for years and years.  I honestly think they'd be somewhat competitive in that conference.

What happened?  Did they let someone in who only got a 30 on the ACT?

Serious stuff.

Perhaps somebody only got a half-ride scholly?  Maybe was only involved in two extracurricular activities as opposed to three?  Perhaps one of the players made a C?  The possibilities are endless.  Someone needs to post the results of the press conference to clarify.

Anyway...fuck Vandy.  Doormat school with the butt ugliest uni's in football.  They change em' every single year to hopefully not suck as much as the year before.

Okay, how about....gold pants, black jerseys with a star on the shoulder pads?  And let's do white helmets with black and gold stripes.  How's that?

God that sux.  Let's try white pants with gold jerseys and black helmets with....

You know, Saban should take the Vandy job and prove that he is the greatest of all time.  Just think, if he could go 8-4 in Nashville, he could prove that he could do it anywhere.

Plus, if he lost to UAB or La-Monroe, it would not be headlines.

Win-win for everyone except Alabama.  Which is always a bonus.

Word on the skreets is he accepted a large sum of money to be the stand in for Steve Martin's next shitty movie project. Having to co-star with Lilly Tomlin has taken quite an emotional toll on the former jerk.

Vandy is a doormat school, but they are a Founding Member of the SEC which gives them some clout for staying around for a long time.  Their Grades also boosts the conference's GPA as a whole.

3rd in Basketball GPA

I can't find a Football GPA list easily, but I would think they would be one of the top programs.
