Quote
OMAHA, Neb. -- Whit Merrifield's RBI single with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning gave South Carolina its first baseball national championship with a 2-1 victory over UCLA in the College World Series on Tuesday night.

The Gamecocks (54-16) won six straight games after losing their CWS opener against Oklahoma. The championship is the last to be played at Rosenblatt Stadium, the CWS' home since 1950. A new stadium in Omaha will be home to the event beginning next year.

Scott Wingo drew a leadoff walk and took second when catcher Steve Rodriguez, perhaps distracted when Evan Marzilli squared to bunt, let an inside 1-0 pitch get past him. Wingo moved to third when Marzilli got a bunt down, and scored when Merrifield drilled a 2-0 pitch by Dan Klein (6-1) past pulled-in outfield of the Bruins (51-17).

South Carolina's first national title in a major sport is the second straight for the Southeastern Conference in the College World Series, following LSU's title last year.

I know with all the Conference mergers debates, USC was questioned as why they should even be in the SEC.  This is another feather in the cap of the SEC.

Do the Razorback titles in basketball not count for anything?  Their track championships?

And what about their hockey team?

I saw a list last night of the teams who have not won an NCAA championship in the big 3 sports(football, basketball, baseball) since the SEC expanded. USCe just got scratched off last night. Auburn is still on it.
We weren't on the list due to our Basketball NC.

South Carolina played a great game last night, and won their first major national championship.  Another  for the SEC!

Oh yeah, one of the announcers couldn't stop sucking the collective cocks of the UCLA pitching staff.  Hell, I guess the USCe pitching staff that held the Bruins to just two runs in two games really sucks.

If we have an undefeated football season, I fully expect the same treatment. Brother.

And I guess it isn't a major sport by most people's standards but there are the 1,309 NC's in Swimming/Diving.

Yeah the women won in 2006.

We would have won in the men's title in 2002 except Gabor Mate (by far the best shot-putter/discus thrower in the country that year) inexplicably failed to place at the National Championship meet. I felt terrible for him. He was a helluva nice guy.
