IMO, True Grit is the greatest Western of all time. John Wayne was masterful. On my list of favorite westerns, and quite possibly favorite movies of all time, True Grit is #1, followed closely by Rooster Cogburn, McClintock and The Sons of Katie Elder. I have seen True Grit so many times that I practically have it memorized.
But now there is going to be a remake. Directed by the Cohen Bros. Starring JEFF BRIDGES as the one eyed old fat man himself. And freaking MATT DAMON as Le Boeuf. MATT. DAMON. MATT!!!!!!!!!! DAMON!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I am going to throw up. Serious nausea. Almost on verge of tears.
Is NOTHING sacred???

Movie Name: Running Scared (2006)
Quote:
Anzor "Duke" Yugorsky: [to Oleg] When I was growing up in Kishinov,
we had no VHS, no DVD back then. I remember... I did a job for this
friend of my father. I pickpocketed a key off this apparatchik. The
man gave me as a reward this childrens projector. It came with
three films: Speedy Gonzalez, Tarzan of the Apes, and John Wayne in
The Cowboys. I watched that thing... a thousand times.
Mila Yugorsky: [offering a plate of pizza] Anzor, its getting cold.
[Anzor puts his cigarette ash on the food]
Anzor "Duke" Yugorsky: I was nine years old. I didnt know how long
movies were supposed to be. My version of The Cowboys, it was only
ten minutes long. No John Wayne getting shot. Because it was for
kids, they left that part out. I didnt know this until I arrive in
America and see it on TV for the first time. I hate it. I want my
eight millimeter back. Because on that one, the Duke lives. Some
things were better in the old place. Not too many. Some things.
Your are correct some things are better left alone. Cowboys is my favorite.

Ned Pepper: What's your intention? Do you think one on four is a dogfall?
Rooster Cogburn: I mean to kill you in one minute, Ned. Or see you hanged in Fort Smith at Judge Parker's convenience. Which'll it be?
Ned Pepper: I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.
Rooster Cogburn: Fill your hands, you son of a bitch.
Greatest scene ever... the Duke, reins in his teeth. Pistol in one hand and rifle in the other.
THAT was a real man. I don't care if he was an actor - you absolutely 100% can believe to the center of your very soul that John Wayne could have and would have done in real life every damn thing he did on the screen.
-
Rooster Cogburn: When's the last time you saw Ned Pepper?
Emmett Quincy: I don't remember any Ned Pepper.
Rooster Cogburn: Short feisty fella, nervous and quick, got a messed-up lower lip.
Emmett Quincy: That don't bring nobody to mind. A funny lip?
Rooster Cogburn: Wasn't always like that, I shot him in it.
Emmett Quincy: In the lower lip? What was you aiming at?
Rooster Cogburn: His upper lip.
Another personal favorite quote.
