Title: Torn panty hose
Post by: bottomfeeder on June 15, 2010, 11:00:01 AM
Shit, they washed 'em? Sniff, Sniff.   :tits:

Quote
ATLANTA, June 11  /PRNewswire/ -- Hooters Girls from all over the country will be voluntarily donating their torn pantyhose in an effort to help absorb the oil spilled in the Gulf of Mexico.  The laundered pantyhose are used to make booms which are stuffed with hair, fur and fleece to absorb the oil.  Hooters expects to collect over 100,000 pairs of pantyhose through this effort dubbed, Project Pantyhose, which could ultimately absorb 1 million gallons of oil in the Gulf, if the booms are reused 8 times, the average life of a boom.

Kind of goes along with BP's newest idea to stop the flow of oil. Hayward's brain fart while watching Lingerie Football.

Moron.

Human hair and animal fur stuffed into nylons have been used for decades to create oil containment booms.  It can also be washed and reused.  This is a sound idea and very eco-friendly.

I think the absorbency of a tampon goes without saying.  Liquid is liquid.

Nice try at being critical, but again, your moonbat is showing.

So where going to have this every 28 days and the ocean is going to be cranky?

Still not understanding all the hatred towards BP in all of this.  Yeah, I can understand being mad at them to an extent, but it's not like they were the only ones involved and why not be pissed at the government?  If not for their strict regulations, drilling at such a depth would not have to take place and drilling could take place at depths where a spill/leak is easier to maintain and stop.

We hate BP because they bypassed too many warnings and safety guards that caused the blowout.

If you go to the link it's kind of funny. And I'm well aware of the hair booms.

Isn't there some government oversight committee that is supposed to ensure that does not happen?

Exactly my point.  There is a LOT of BLAME to go around that the government entities want no part of.  How does one deflect the attention?  Point and scream loudly about what others are doing or not doing.

In fact here is a novel idea for the powers that be.....How about dealing with the actual problem first in lieu of pointing fingers about what caused it?

Well said Sir!

I'm usually never one to quote Keith Olbermann but his criticism of The ONE's speech on the gulf oil crisis last night was priceless: "It was a great speech if you've been living on another planet for the last 57 days."

MMS, but they were too busy getting fucked up to do their jobs. If this was truly a free market, the people would own everything BP right now. It may end up that way anyway. For now I'll continue to short the stock. Made a handsome sum last month and at the end of April. So far this month it's been little less. Transocean wasn't much of a mover so I got out of shorting it.

d. - all of the above and the rest of the oil industry?

Right now, it's the job of BP to stop the oil leak first of all by the safest means necessary.

It's the job of BP to pay for the cleanup.

It's the job of Barry O to organize the cleanup (with the States and government agencies) along with other mitigation procedures and cut through any government bureaucracy preventing that from happening quickly and efficiently.

As to TransOcean and Halliburton, BP is responsible for taking any legal action they deem necessary against them for any liability they have in the explosion.

I disagree.  You can get a hell of a lot less depth and still be out of condo sight.  I would contend those that say that know less than shit and are just spouting off at the mouth.

Got an email from a boat captain that I charter with out of Grayton Beach.  BP hired him to patrol that area and report back to them.  Yesterday, the oil was very thick 4 miles off the beach.

I think I'm gonna' throw up.

Nevermind, Uncle Sani took this up before I could get back to it.

If that is your reasoning then I hope you hate the hell out of NASA, DoD, DoE, Oil industry, construction workers...etc....etc....etc....etc...   Almost every corporation and every industry will cut safety measures in order to meet delivery/completion time.   Happens everyday.

I know I see it everyday, believe me. I wished things weren't so pushed though. I have seen people killed because of this, and DWH was no different. The well should have been sealed with kill mud instead of sea water before the last cement seal was placed (I mean shit, why risk it?). That was one of the reasons for the blowout.

Has nothing to do with that. It has to do with a Shelf moratorium put in place in 1981 under the democrat heavy house.  Reagan hated it but his hands were tied. Bush (Jr.) hated it too and tried to lift it in 2008 but it was blocked by the dems. BP and the others were in unchartered territory (5000+) when they could have been anywhere on the shelf. There are PLENTY of places to drill in shallow water that is not in Condo's eye view. Thats a horseshit argument and you know it BF.  This is about politics and environmental lobbyists having way too much influence on a country's energy policy. THIS - is the ROOT CAUSE.

BP was just playing with the hand they were dealt. Blame them? Sure - but they aren't the only ones.  MMS granted a waiver to this rig not long before it went kaboom that allowed it to bypass many of the normal tests that it must pass to be operational. MMS - a GOVT agency responsible for making sure this rig is SAFE to operate. And of course days later Obama fired the head of MMS further proving this was a gov't blunder.

Good article by Charles Krauthammer.

Underground Blowout?
Dear Lord... [facepalm]

By definition, a "blow out" is an uncontrolled well condition above the surface of the land or sea floor.  You know... blow OUT...

What they are talking about here is damage to the formation itself - a collapse or other perforation of the walls of the reservoir that would reduce the formation/hydrostatic pressures in the well and might make it impossible to extract oil from that location in the future.
