I wanted to take a minute to remember what Memorial day is all about. In the times that we live in, we sometimes forget the sacrifices that many have made before us and many are currently making to protect our country. We owe a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women that serve us now, and have served us so bravely in the past. Now being a father, I can't imagine the agony on ones heart to leave his family in order to protect the safety of his fellow American. To them I bestow my sincerest thanks.
For many, Memorial day is simply the "start of summer". I challenge each and every one of us to make it something more than that. In whatever way possible make this day about the principles of our great country, and the men and women who have served it so thanklessly over the years. So on this day, I for one will be doing simple things to show my thanks for our veterans, my pride in our country, and my love for my family and friends.
I will be flying my flag proudly
I will be wearing red, white, and blue
I will be reaching out to my friends who are serving, or who have served in the past to thank them
Please take a moment today to celebrate this glorious yet somber day, and remember that it is about more than just BBQ and an extra day off of work. Please say a prayer for all those currently serving, and let all around you know that we are PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!!!!
In closing I wanted to share a couple of songs that touch my heart. The first is a fantastic version of Amazing Grace, sung by LeeAnn Rimes, and the second is my all time favorite Hymn performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I hope these songs will inspire all of us to remember what today is all about.

Great Post.
Have a great Memorial Day.

I would especially like to remember, in the real spirit of Memorial Day, those that gave all in service to our country and our way of life, and offer prayers to any of those families who lost a loved one in service to our country.

I dedicate this Memorial Day to Specialist Alex Vaughn who died in combat June 21, 2005.
Alex was from Pell City. I had the honor of meeting this young hero at the Veterans Day celebration in Pell City in November of 2004.
God bless him, his family, his comrades and their families on this day.

Great posts!!
God Bless our men and women in uniform and their families!!

It was a good day. Mixed emotions from my son who was just retired a week ago. Too soon to wear the uniform, but still proud to have served. Many old vets still have a great pride and remember fallen friends with a memory full of life and wisdom. I think it takes a while for the young ones to actually realize what their service really means to many Americans.
God bless them all and their families. And may the world become a place where no soldier is ever needed.

If you ever get a chance visit a national cemetery. You can truly walk among our hero’s. I had the privilege while serving to work military funerals. They can bring the strongest person to their knees.

Former AF Honor Guard out of Maxwell AFB here, dallaswareagle....
I hear ya there.

A little off topic but Spike had the entire Band of Brothers series on yesterday. I think I watched all but about 10 minutes of it. That's the most riveting, realistic (from what I've read and heard) stuff I've ever seen. I couldn't stop.

Of all the things I did while serving, the funeral details would be one I am most proud that I did. You really felt like you were honoring the fallen.
If no one else has said it, Good job to you.
