LUBBOCK, TX (AP) - Court documents show that Mike Leach will be deposed in Lubbock by attorneys for Texas Tech in the former football coach's lawsuit.
Leach, who currently is living with his family in Key West, Florida, is set for oral and video depositions beginning Friday morning at the offices of his Lubbock attorney, Ted Liggett. Liggett did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
There were no documents in the lawsuit file to indicate the two sides have completed court-ordered mediation.
The university fired Leach on December 30, two days after suspending him amid allegations that he mistreated Tech receiver, Adam James, who had a concussion. His suit includes allegations of libel and slander and breach of contract. Leach has denied he mistreated James.
Meanwhile, Leach's attorneys have subpoenaed documents from Frenship Independent School District. They are seeking any correspondence between F.I.S.D. and Texas Tech University and/or Tech's new head football coach, Tommy Tuberville. Court documents imply that Leach's legal team is especially interested in any conversations about enrolling members of the Tuberville family in the school district.
Monday afternoon, Judge Bill Sowder scheduled a hearing into this matter for March 26, 2010

The only thing I get from this is that Leach is trying to establish a timeline where TTech had already decided to fire him before the evidence was in regarding James.
If he can show that Tuberville was already making plans to enroll his kids in school there BEFORE the James story came to light, he could theoretically claim that the school acted in bad faith when it removed him.
Even at that, it's strictly a monetary ploy now. He's not going back there and he probably realizes that his public stance has poisoned him for other schools. Right now he'd be lucky to get a job at a junior college. So he's trying to squeeze every dime he can out of Tech before he has to go to ground for a long time.

That's what I think Coach Leach is trying to get out of all of this. IMO, he's making it harder on himself to get hired elsewhere.
