Title: Chizik, McElwain to speak at L'Arche Mobile Fundraiser

Yeah, there's the link. No need to post the story really.

I bring this up because I'd like to know what bammers think about the fact that Saban never does shit that a head coach is supposed to do. He sends his minions out for all the appearances and whatnot.

I have said before that a head coach's job is to basically be the CEO. The face of the company. Do the hiring and firing, go speak to the press, do the charity functions, do the H1N1 commercial, etc. Position coaches do the actual X's and O's stuff.

It seems the only times he ever emerges is for required press conferences, media days, and to illegally "bump" into players.

With the success they've had, I doubt they care.

Which will ultimately be their/his downfall.

Actually a coach’s job is to run a successful program. Some coaches need to participate and do certain things to be successful and some don’t. Chizik can do all the speaking engagements and kiss every baby in the state, but if he loses to Ark, LSU, Ga and Bama the next 3yrs the fans will turn on him. Bobby B. Mark R and your very own Tommy T are great Christians, loving family men and ONCE considered great coaches by their fans. What changed?

We as fans convience ourselves that we are a fan of the coach when we are really a fan of the success he has.

It seems like you're just trying to make an argument here, but I'm bored.....I'll bite.

Personally, I would rather the coach work on football. It's sort of odd that you guys praised CTT for being a CEO type coach, but then that was his downfall according to some of you. He should have spent more time concentrating on football, right? Anyway, I'm pretty sure as far as charities go, his charity foundation Nick's Kids seems to do fairly well. The organization donates to L'Arche on a yearly basis.

I will admit this time to pretty much arguing just to argue.

I'm bored as hell and the forum isn't helping.

But yeah, I maintain that X's and O's are assistant's job. Recruiting, and getting yourself out there in the media, etc. is what a HC should be doing. I have just noticed the pattern that Nikki never does this kind of shit. It's always Chizik and some assistant from Alabama at these things within the state.

[devil's advocate]

Perhaps Nick's plan is to create the appearance that Chizik=Nick's Asst. Coaches?

If you make your opponent appear to be the equivalent of your flunky, then you marginalize him.

It obvious to all, especially recruits, that Little Dinky don't care. He doesn't like old people, young people or himself. It would be best for all of the world if Dinky found himself an island to call his own and lived there.

That's to make sure they are all busy there and not anywhere around him.

Name:  Nick's Kids

Purpose:  A program centered around education for minority families who raise dumb NFL caliber athletes.  The money it generates is used for things such as special tutoring, paying off law enforcement agencies to cover up crimes and buying expensive vehicles and homes.

That just sounds really close to being "Jerry's Kid" to me.
