This from Chase Goodbread's Twitter:
"Inside word: Top prospect OL Shon Coleman wants to sign with UA but the #s game isn't sorted out yet. I was told expect it to happen."
Chase Goodbread is a Univ. of Alabama football beat writer for the Tuscaloosa News.

This would be nice if it were true. It looked as if for a while James Stone was UA bound, but kudos to UT's new coach for making a renewed push for him. Looks like it worked. Even if we miss on Stone and Coleman, we're more than likely going to get Arie Kouandjio, who I'm very excited about.
-
It's hard for me to believe that everyone knows about this in Tuscaloosa but our coaches and the "inside" Rivals guys don't. I have seen no updates and I don't believe the coaches would let Coleman go without a big time fight.
Also, if you start seeing some other OL on campus this weekend with reports of new offers...then believe it about Coleman...

Or, the Auburn coaches put up a fight, lost, and the Rivals guys on Auburn's side didn't want to put that all out there. Who knows?

Here is how Shane Youngblood of BOL put it:
Just a qualifier for you guys: Things could change minute by minute from here on out. Anyone that says that have a real firm idea of who Alabama will close with is probably guessing. It is just impossible to know the numbers situation, and on top of that, most of the remaining targets aren't doing a lot of talking.

Figures. There's more page hits if they keep the drama stirring.

That quote was in reference to about 10 or so different recruits they were giving updates on, not just Coleman.

You look at this as some vast conspiracy.
I look at this as no one knowing what the fuck they are talking about and no one knows who will sign with anyone till there name is on the dotted line.

Conspiracy? Hardly. More like a business trying to keep the wheels turning. I get it. However, there is some precedent for Rivals recruiting rankings being a bit on the subjective side when it comes to Auburn and Alabama. However, since "winning" a NASHENAL CHAMPEEENSHIPPPPPPP the Bammers at Rivals seem to not worry with that as much.

Exactly. Nobody knows dick. Hell, just months ago, anyday Seastrunk was going to commit to AU. He couldn't tell enough outlets how much he liked AU and how they were #1 for him. Now he's an Oregon commit. Shit changes, and we're talking about a bunch of 17-18 year old kids. Anything at this point is an educated guess. At this point, the BOL mods simply say Coleman is interested in Alabama and that Alabama might have a good shot at him. I think we all could surmise that anyways.

It is an interesting proposal for him. At Auburn, he could possible start in a year (if he's as good as advertised). At Alabama, he's got to get in line behind some serious talent. I suppose we should also consider school in this as well. Nothing against Alabama - fine institution - but Auburn is fucking hard, man. Even for athletes. Women - well, I'd give Auburn the edge, but I'm sure I'm just biased. Nightlife goes to Tuscaloosa. So many factors...
-
What's interesting about Goodbread's theory is that it's a "numbers" game to try to fit him in...then how did the 3-star kid from Memphis just happen to fit into the numbers suddenly?
Surely a kid from Memphis that Alabama could have stolen at any time isn't higher on the board than Coleman. So if they had room for the Ivory, wouldn't that spot have gone to Coleman if Coleman was "sold" and just "hoping" he had a spot? As of now Alabama only has two OL commits, and neither are highly recruited. Arie Kouandjio is expected to join, but either way, this isn't a loaded OL class without Stone.
This isn't to say Coleman isn't going to end up at Alabama, but to say it's a "done deal" and they are just hoping the numbers work out sounds like a load to me. The addition of Ivory today kind of blows that up.

Ivory and Coleman are two different positions. A NG may be a more important need at this point than Coleman. Bama has signed 10 offensive line prospects in the last 2 classes. OL isn't a top priority this year so Coleman may just be the next highest player on the board IF a spot becomes available.

Which is what I would be telling SC if I were Chizik....

If a spot opens up for Coleman and he leaves, it's a big blow to Auburn's recruiting despite what any sunshine pumper will tell you.
This guy is a five star super hyped recruit. He's a big story since he worked his way up from a lowly 3 star to one of the top 25 prospects in the country.
While he's not a lock to be a superstar, it will be perceived as Nick Saban still having Auburn by the balls if he can pull away a top prospect from Auburn simply because he had an open spot. That's Bear Bryant style, and as much as it frustrates me, it's pretty damn impressive.
What's worse is that if Coleman switches, he'll probably be the center of baseless rumors claiming he was bought.
I hate this time of the year.

Don't think Bama would have used the media to make the big "Coleman may be switching" rumors so public if this wasn't going to happen. Saban's all Andre Aggasi about image and I just don't think he would want to take the PR hit if his "best effort" wasn't able to snatch anybody he wanted from the Auburn commit list, particularly from a guy he and his fanbase have no respect for -- Geno Chizik.
Would surprise me now if he stuck with his Auburn commitment.
I don't buy the "Saban orchestrated this months ago" nonsense, but I do accept the theory that the only reason this blew up in a public way is because they had back channel communications recently and were told that he would change if given the chance. Then they allowed it to become a story. Otherwise we never hear about it.

Unfortunately, I agree with this.

You are 100% correct here.
They appear in the drivers seat with him, but there was no vast conspiracy by Saban. He merely put the full court press on after he became a 5 star and after Stone went to Tenn. Simple as that.
Although it does appear that DJ is staying with us over Clemson.
Prowler, where are your skreets? Any skreet worth its weight in testicle hair should know this things by now. :)

I don't think any rational or sane Alabama fan would argue otherwise. The bullshit thread on Tidesports was started for a reason, as are the other threads that jackass starts that are total bullshit meant to get everybody going. Again, I'm not going to speak for the idiots that might actually believe it, though.
Oh, and I'm sure Prowler will chime in to tell us that Coleman may sign with Alabama. Of course, unless he doesn't. In that case he might sign with Auburn. Unless he signs with Alabama.

Well, I don't know how else you want me to say what Prowler does. I wasn't aware that what I said was Kaos' "shtick". Technically, his "shtick" is Prowler's "shtick" in that case.
This shtick was made for you and me!
-
I agree with Kaos' "it wouldn't be all over the media if it wasn't gonna happen" theory. It's just like how we heard all about a bama commitment switching to Auburn right before Craig Sanders switched.
It will be somewhat impressive if Saban switches him, but not incredibly so. For one, he has the fact that James Stone left for Tennessee. He can use that like this, "honestly, Shon, we're glad he's chosen UT. The more we got to know him and the more we watched you, we were hoping something would come up to allow us to go after you. Now that he's moved on, we're elated to have the opportunity to finally get who we really wanted".
Second, Coleman didn't pick Auburn over anyone really. It's not like he looked around, made some visits, and picked Auburn over someone in a head-to-head type decision. We're the only car he test drove. Maybe we're a BMW to Alabama's Mercedes. They're both great, but you don't know which you like better until you've driven both. So it's not like Coleman checked with Auburn, checked with Alabama, chose Auburn, then was persuaded otherwise at the last minute. He may have been an Alabama recruit 6 months ago had he just visited them in the first place.
Any way you look at it though, it does suck for us in every way possible (on the field, in the media, etc).
-
If I was Chizik and Co, I would put it to like this. Shon, son we were the only team that gave a damn about you until the recruiting services put a couple of extra stars beside your name. You've took a couple of visits, tapped a couple of ho's and had some fun, but now it's time to come on back. Or something of that nature.

I fixed it so you could see what it was like a few years ago.
By the way, Tuberville's speech didn't work, and now he's at Texas Tech.

BTW, I've already made my comment on Coleman....I'm not saying that he "may sign" with SPuat, I'm saying that he will.

What the fuck does that even mean?

It's called a "Perfect Backup", lol.
I went back and edited it...I'm fuckin' dawg tired, two hours of driving on top of 8 hours, per day is wearing me out.

I was hoping you left a word out. Or something.
And be careful with that driving. Bad things happen to tired drivers.
