Former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said Thursday he's interested in the Texas Tech opening.

"I would be very interested," Tuberville said. "I have family there. I have a lot of ties there. I've recruited Dallas and Houston and I think it would be a pretty good fit. Mike [Leach] did a good job and I think I could make the situation even better."

Tuberville and Baylor coach Art Briles are two logical candidates, according to sources familiar with the pending search to replace Mike Leach. Leach was fired Wednesday after 10 seasons with the Red Raiders.

Interim coach Ruffin McNeil, the team's defensive coordinator, will lead Texas Tech in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Jan. 2 against Michigan State Spartans.

Tuberville and Auburn parted ways after his team went 5-7 in his 10th season at the school.

In 2004, Tuberville received national coach of the year awards after leading the Tigers to a 13-0 record.

Tuberville averaged 8.5 wins in his 10 seasons, taking Auburn to eight consecutive bowls.

The Tech fans would be in for a rude awakening going from Leach to Tubs. Talk about two different approaches...wow. The Tech people may be getting a better coach with someone able to win more and bigger games, but they may not have the patience for the kind of game that Tubs will bring to the table. The power running and defensive game plan will be something Tech fans will have to get used to...

Did Tubs drop Sexton as his agent?  He has been out pimping himself all over the place for the last month now.

I don't think the TT job would be a good one for Tubs.  It would take at least 3 years to get the personnel to match his philosophy, and I don't think they would be patient enough.

It would be quite a contrast.  But really, even though Leach kind of fit there, he really isn't typical of their fan base and student body.  Tuberville could be accepted there too (as long as he wins, of course).

And I do think Tuberville would be a change overall, but maybe not as much as we think as far as offense.  His Franklin experiment was an admission that it was time to change that part of his philosophy.  He'll still demand a good running game, so that he can control the clock when he needs to or when he can.  And defense is in his blood, but I think he knows, even more so in the Big XII, he'll have to score and air it out some.  It's also the only way he'll keep getting good offensive recruits to go to Lubbock.

I would suggest he try to keep the offensive staff, but they're all really young...only in their second or third year at Tech.  But he'll find someone to put points up, I think he knows that's part of the equation these days.

I agree, the Tech job just doesnt seem a good fit for Tubs at all. A&M is more down Tubs alley.

That'd be funny...Tech fires a HC that liked to shop his name around just about every year only to hire another HC that is completely opposite of the former HC...except that he likes to shop his name around too and likes to go duck hunting a month before National Signing Day.

Hey, he was recruiting just as good, if not better, than Saban was at that point though, right? He's not recruiting from Rivals and recruiting only stars just to appease a fanbase, right? He's recruiting character and Auburn men, right? Funny how some of the same people that were spinning that shit as fast as they could are now trying to bury the guy.

Not worrying about stars landed him a broadcasting job.

I'd say, not worrying about players that'll qualify, landed him a broadcasting job.

Well, we had some Star type players, these last few years, but a good percentage of those never made it in or didn't make it through the first couple of semesters.

Again Tubs would do well at A&M.

Houston Nutt has denied he's a candidate for the TT job.
