Mack Brown.
He'll begin making $5.1 million next year and will continue to get $100,000 raises annually.
He was making $3.1 million and was due a $2 million bonus for still being there as of January 15th, 2010. The university decided to make the extra $2 million permanent, making his new salary $5.1 million for the remainder of his contract.
Personally, I'm kind of tired of the coaches salaries continuing to skyrocket. I thought for sure it would slow down and hang out around the $3-4 million range for a while (considering the economy). And Mack Brown isn't exactly looking around at open jobs. I mean, why throw $2 million more at someone who would have stayed another 10 years at the same salary? Give him a little raise to meet his market value, say to $4 million, but why the arbitrary $5.1 million? Just seems wasteful to me.

Thing about it is, a moron could just about coach and recruit at Texas. They are in an easy conference as compared to the SEC. They have about 8 wins guaranteed every year even if they are just avg. Recruits come to Texas. He has a killer staff. To me its basically on autopilot out there in Austin. People like Brian Kelly and Gary Patterson, to me, deserve more due to doing more with what they have to work with. Mack Brown has it easy. And I think Muschump with his sideline antics will not duplicate Brown's success. I really dont care for the dude.
And to answer your last question JA. You know why. Because they're Texas and they'll buy their way to bigger to feel better about themselves. I really hate that school.....

Wow, Texas and Alabama sound a lot alike. I guess thats why you hate 'em GH. Makes for a tough decision in the BSC game........nah, nevermind, I'm still pullin for Texas.

Don't get them too confused. They have a tons of money, have a history of an "elitist" mentality when they are compared to A&M or Texas Tech or anyone else here. But for the most part, Texas fans aren't too bad when compared to Alabama fans (to me anyway). The worst ones are the ones that actually went to Texas. The rest aren't too terribly bad.
As for Mack Brown, he is a CEO type, but he's a good guy really. I find him similar to Tuberville in a lot of ways (as a man, not a coach necessarily).

Don't forget, we feel that way because of the consistency that Brown has had there.
But look at the 11 years between Fred Acres and Mack Brown.
David McWilliams was there 5 years. He won 10 games once, but won 5 or less 3 of his five years.
1987 - 7-5
1988 - 4-7
1989 - 5-6
1990 - 10-2
1991 - 5-6
Next was John Mackovic. He was there 6 years, also won 10 games once, but won 6 or less 3 of his six years.
1992 - 6-5
1993 - 5-5-1
1994 - 8-4
1995 - 10-2
1996 - 8-5
1997 - 4-7
Together they were 72-54, or a winning % of .571.
Mackovic's last season was 4-7. Mack Brown came in and went 9-3 the very next year, has never won less than 9 games, and has won 10+ for 9 straight years. His winning % is .830. He's won 55 more games in 12 years than those two guys did in their 11 years before Brown.
1998 - 9-3
1999 - 9-5
2000 - 9-3
2001 - 11-2
2002 - 11-2
2003 - 10-3
2004 - 11-1
2005 - 13-0
2006 - 10-3
2007 - 10-3
2008 - 12-1
2009 - 12-0
So it seems so easy to win and recruit there, but only because he's been so good at it for so long.

THIS ^^^^^ (as long as you aren ot an A&M fan, and then, well, they feel like we do abt bammer. Want them to lose at tiddlywinks.)
I have no qualms at all with pulling for UT in the BCS. And I kind of like Mack. He seems like a good guy, as jad has mentioned. You never ever hear anything bad about him.
-
My dad got his undergrad from OU, and his PhD from A&M... I grew up in Auburn while he taught there.
So from the time I was old enough to sit upright on a couch by myself, I was pulling for five teams:
AU, OU, A&M....
And whoever played UA or UT.

Yep, and Mackovic/McWilliams sucked ass. Texas is a goldmine. You have to almost be a complete fuck up to lose there. They have no real instate competitor. No - A&M is not in the same league on the field in prestige factor. I just get tired of hearing about Texas this and Texas that all day every day from 2 of the cohorts I work with. And honestly, Auburn (as a school and alum) have more in common with A&M than Texas. I honestly dont give a shit who wins this game. Either way - I lose out and have to hear it. I can tell that IF Bama does win, its nice for the SEC to bitch slap another conference - AGAIN.
Texas - less wins than Michigan, less NC's than ND, Oklahoma, USC and Alabama. That one always chaps their asses when I tell em that at work. LOL

Sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle.
-
Yeah and to think Mackovic was considered fairly seriously after B...B... I ccaann't.

Pickle Suprise?

Don't be ridiculous. Those two previous coaches proved that NOBODY can win at Texas. It's a coaching hell hole. A cesspool. Nobody wins there.

Texas is the Iowa State of the Big XII South.
