Weis out as Notre Dame coach
By The Birmingham News
November 30, 2009, 1:38PM
The New York Daily News, citing an unnamed source, says Charlie Weis has been fired as Notre Dame coach.
The Associated Press says Notre Dame players have begun arriving for a team meeting while awaiting word on the fate of coach Weis.
This afternoon's meeting will include a vote on whether the players want to play in a bowl game after their 6-6 season. Athletic director Jack Swarbrick has said he will consider the players' wishes in deciding on a bowl trip.

Maybe they should get someone who can protect their QB from the masses.
-
Digger Phelps could win eight a year there. George O'Leary still looks good on paper. Think they could run him by the committee in disguise?
-
Everybody is saying that Brian Kelly is the guy.
I still think that ND has whiffed on far too many coaches to take a run at a relatively unproven coach. They need a homerun.
Urban Meyer to South Bend.

I may be waaay off on this, but I am seriously thinking a little further north than Gainesville. They already have to negotiate a huge buyout for Weiss to leave. Anybody else would require them to pay another huge buyout...save one golden gnomer in Tuscaloosa.

I would imagine the agents (Is Sexton still Saban"s) for all the candidates have long since been in "Negotiations".
I'm not saying Saban or Corch Meyers would go, but there is no way in hades their agents haven't at least talked some preliminary numbers with the Quackolics to be able to say, "Yo, Nicky...I ain't sayin' you should...and I ain't sayin you shouldn't...but IF you did...$$$$$"

Next year if we keep recruiting and have a better year we'll be holding our breath...... not for the Chizel, but for Gus.
I want to see what GM can do when he has HIS players on HIS terms.

If Tyrik turns out to be the QB he is hyped to be, GM will have more of a chance of doing that next year. Senior dominated line...quality running backs...2 receivers that should get some all-conference pub after going to war this season...the beast, Lutzenfruchenheizer at TE and a veritable plethora of young talent coming in with the 2010 recruiting class.
I'm still not sold on his game preparation and/or ability to manage a game. There have been far too many times this year that everyone just scratched their heads and asked WTF?

My limb says no.

.....and theres a damn good reason for that. It's not good for our side either.

Semi agreed. Let's not forget... Gussy only had a half a season in SEC before landing here. Besides, it's hard to say what would and wouldn't work. Like Friday... UA had our number by the second half. Trick plays were all gone, and the pressure was coming. Very, very little time to wait for deep passes. So we went with the dump across the middle, or try a running play against a stacked front line. Not optimum, but it's all we had given that UA had figured us out.
So sometimes I think his play calling is just stupid... sometimes I think it's just a "lesser of two evils" decision. In the end, it's just hard to say what is what. I mean, we haven't been a second half team this year. Ever. Which is why (in my opinion) we went balls out in the first half, and just hung on for dear fucking life in the second half. It was ALMOST enough. I'm not sure play calling would have helped us much in the end... then again, maybe a few more solid play calls would have helped get us a couple extra yards, and a few first downs.

My limb says that Tyrik is that damn good.
Also, greaseybammer, the reason why we won't hear Coach Chizik's name being mentioned for HC jobs all around the Country every year, is because he's not a Punk BITCH!!! that trys to swindle money out of his employer.
Come to think of it, no fuckin' wonder Auburn couldn't land a signing class with more than 4 or 5 Top Notch type talent...even after the '04 Undefeated Season...because every God Damn year we got to hear how X University is looking at Coach Tuberville to be their next HC, eventhough some of that shit was made up by the fuckin' retarded bammers, CTT would never come out and squash any of the talk....The Top Notch talented players never knew if he was going to truthfully be there or not.

Defense wins in the SEC. Look at us.

No retarded fuck its because he is not really worth a damn and nobody else wanted him.

I'm not sure why everyone keeps calling what Gus is doing "trick plays"? Have we been running the fumblerooskie every other play?
It's speed (most of the time) and misdirection. Nothing else. I guess if we are gonna use that standard then anyone who runs a trap or counter play is utilizing trick plays as well.

Thank you.
Of course, my favorite "trick play" from Friday was the one where the Defense held Ingram to 1.9 YPC. They should use that one again.

It should be easy when they use an entirely different look than they have all year.
McElroy said Auburn’s defense showed some strange looks in its front that served to confuse Alabama’s pre-snap recognition.
“I wouldn’t say undisciplined, but unique and non-traditional,” McElroy said of Auburn’s fronts. “At one point they had a shade, a three-technique and a five-technique all on one side, and then a linebacker filling in the backside B-gap. Usually we call that a synch front, but you never see three defensive linemen on one side — it’s just unusual.
But still, you have to credit that to Auburn. If they can do something totally new and do it effectively, then more power to them. Put that together with everybody on the AU defense playing one hell of a game.
