...of an article that starts out ok, and then just quickly and awkwardly tumbles into typical bamerham news jizzing in their pants at the thought of Saban.

Alabama Football, Auburn Football, Iron Bowl ยป
Chizik's favorite Iron Bowl was his first

We've come a long way since Tubs. vs. Fran. (Mark Almond / The Birmingham News)
Picking his favorite Iron Bowl isn't easy for Gene Chizik.
He's coached in three, as the Auburn defensive coordinator, and won all three in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
But the first one stands out.
``The 2002 game was very special to me,'' he said.
Not just because Auburn 17, Alabama 7 was his first, and the first of what would become Auburn's six-game winning streak in the series.
Or because Chizik's defense limited Alabama to its second-lowest point total in an Iron Bowl in the last 20 years, behind only Auburn's 9-0 shutout in 2000.
No, 2002 was extra special because it gives Auburn at least some hope in 2009.
No one gave the Tigers much of a chance that year, either.
``We went in there with nothing to lose,'' Chizik said.
After all, Alabama had won the previous Iron Bowl 31-7.
Auburn already had lost its top three tailbacks, including Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown, to injury.
The Tigers were 7-4, unranked, and coming off a heartbreaking loss to Georgia.
The Tide was 9-2, ranked No. 9 and coming off a 31-0 whipping of LSU -- and Nick Saban.
``They were good,'' Chizik said.
Not good enough that day, though, as freshman tailback Tre Smith ran wild. Auburn jumped out 17-0 and, in the Tommy Tuberville tradition, held on.
``It was a great memory,'' Chizik said. ``It was a fun day.''
Of course, that Alabama team would've played in the SEC Championship Game but couldn't because of NCAA probation. And that Alabama team was not in contention for the national championship.
And that Alabama coach, Dennis Franchione, had one foot out the door toward a new job at Texas A&M.
Bad news, Auburn: There's no indication that Saban is going anywhere after he gets his first win ever in Auburn.
Except to Atlanta.
And then Pasadena.
Splooge.
I know the odds are slim that we win this game. I'm not an idiot. But the bamerham media apparently thinks the game already took place. No need to play it on the field, because it is written in the stars that they will blow us out 36-0 or worse.

What the hell is this article? Does anyone value good writing? Seriously...where can I read insightful sports articles that have consistent writers who aren't blowhards for their favorite teams?
This article could have been great. Let's bring up the 2002 Iron Bowl and discuss how Auburn didn't have a chance in that game. Then, as you said, splooge.
This article doesn't have a direct point. It's just there. He had a deadline, and he probably had two different ideas. Instead of putting in the extra effort and staying up past his bedtime to finish a cogent article, he converged the two thoughts and said to hell with it.

Instead, this guy finished this story at Buffalo Wild Wings watching Okie St and Colorado last night.

I readily admit that this is 99% wishful thinking. And that historical comparisons and stats like "The last seven times we played this team on the 14th of the month when there's a full moon and the groundhog saw his shadow, we won" are pretty worthless.
But...
Going into this game reminds me both of the 2002 Iron Bowl, and the 1989 Iron Bowl, of which this is the 20 year anniversary...
Just sayin, something in the very very very back of my mind is optimistic that this game is a lot closer than people are expecting.

I think we win this game.
-
I think y'all are letting your fanaticism influence your opinions.
That's fine. It will definitely influence mine soon enough.
Let's put it this way - Right now, I'm hoping we win, but I know that we probably won't. When I wake up on Friday, November 27, I'll be expecting to win.

Pertaining to both entrances I would imagine.
