Title: I officially proclaim this...
Post by: Snaggletiger on November 14, 2009, 10:59:43 PM
the WORST fucking in-game coaching job in history.

To Coach Gus:  4th quarter...you get 6-7 yards on first down with the game tied. The call? Let's heave the FUCKING ball long.  Brilliant, you stupid sumbitch. You want to go to Memphis?  Good riddance. Dumbass playcalling from the point we went up 14-0 until Georgia made Auburn the damn laughing stock of the SEC. Time after time Auburn fans are chanting...WHY?????  You stupid fuck!!!  You have a wide open offensive mind.  Great!!! How about managing a game for once.  FUCK!!!!

Anyone wondering how I could be so pissed. Our offense scored...get ready....wait for it...THREE.,..3...THREE fucking points after the 7:00 minute mark of the 1st quarter....AWFUL!!~!!!@.

Chris Todd...how bout NOT throwing the ball down the middle of the field with NOT ONE FUCKING receiver in the same area code...and the game on the line.....YOU STUPID FUCK!!!!!!!

Mario Fannin...has Trooper Tayor never mentioned that you're going to get hit whether you catch the ball or not?????  Huh??

Oh...and just a shout out to my BOYEEEEEEEE....Neiko Thorpe. When it's 3rd and 16 in the 4th quarter....you might want to try covering someone in a manner sort of...oh saaaaaayyyy...sort of like a college football player.  Not like a 9th grade RE-TARD!!!! You stupid fuck!!!!!

Bottom line...this game was Auburn's...plain and simple.  All they had to do (After having the game in their hands at 14-0 and the ball in UGA territory and the chance to make this a BLOWOUT) was make a few plays...a few calls...

I am NOT happy with this staff and the way they handled this team tonight. Here's the key.... this team lost this game.,..UGA did NOT win it.  AU lost it!!! Please show me where I'm wrong.

Fuck Ziemba, that Sob had to get his usual false start right on the last drive, that is one of the last things I remember, I know there were 100 other reasons we lost this game.

Dont forget Ziemba's sorry ass, biggest play of the game and stupid fuck jumps offsides! I agree with your entire post. We could have lined up in the I-formation and ran the ball down their fucking throat without all that bullshit motion/wildcat formation. I am so fuckiing pissed that we got outcoached by Mark "hotseat" Rickt.

no arguments here.  First thing I thought was that Tuberville would have won this game.  He knew how to hamdle a lead....this team did not.

our offensive line was a big disappointment.  Couldn't pass protect....couldn't do anything for the running game.  Just sad.

I'm pissed.  I'm tired.  I'm  other stuff too...wake me up on national signing day...that's the next thing that could put a smile on my face.

I mean, Obama is in office, the Yankees won the World Series, Alabama is going to win a Heisman trophy, probably the SEC title, and maybe a national title....so I'm going to sleep for a couple months.  Someone record The Office for me.

This game was the difference in a New Year's Day Bowl...Cotton Bowl...and Shreveport.  This staff (Malzahn/Chizik) handled this like they needed to get to the All-You-Can-Eat Pizza Hut buffet before 11:00 p.m.

Bad...Bad.... BAD

I think you all need to chill the fuck out.

It wasn't that bad.  We lost.  The coaches had some stupid calls, and the players made some stupid decisions.

But in the end, we just weren't able to win the game.  Simple as that.

How is it that Georgia is so much more physical than Auburn? After the fourteen points you could see Auburn weaken. I have only this to add because this was the worst team Georgia has fielded in many years. The game was played like two groups chose up sides. Joe Cox is a Bulldog hero. Joe Cox! We made him look better than Stafford or Greene.

Since 1998, the last year before Tubs, we have lost to Ga 7 times. 4 of those losses have been by double digits. In that same time we have only beaten Ga twice by double digits. At one time we held a 53-48 advantage in the series. Now it is 53-52. No, I will pass on Tubs coaching this game and winning.

As Denny Green said "We let em off the hook!!!".  Yes, we have let Ga off the hook - in this game and in this series. We probably saved Richt's job and made a bad Ga team look good. I will be so glad when Todd graduates and we get Rollison rolling.

Yeah, it was a little crazy to watch.  Turns out, the 2:00 minute offense ALL the time can be a bad thing when you can't score on every drive.

Who knew.   :poke:

I drank two bottles of jager... I think I screamed that 50 times at the bar last night, and I'm fairly certain Chopper is hiding from me right now dodging my texts. lol

9 penalties for 60 yards.... over double that of the most penalized team in the SEC.  (aka UGA)

I hope Malzahn, occasional questionable play calling aside, sticks around long enough to run our offense with a capable QB.

I didn't see that part. I did see your OL get fucking stuck by two UGA DL tho. I don't think I've ever seen a collision like that. Those were 3 big guys to be colliding like that.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here...but this was the first game where I really thought our lack of depth was a real factor. I know it's been an issue, but in all of our previous losses....well, there was a bunch of other shit wrong. Last night we started out strong and we just couldn't sustain it.
Were there some stupid calls...some mistakes? Yeah.(motherfucking Chris Todd) But they weren't game breakers, imho. Our kids didn't play a bad game. Kentucky was a bad game.... LSU was a bad game....Arky, with the exception of the 3rd was a bad game....

That being said, it doesn't make me feel one fucking bit better. Fuck ga.

Yes, lets not mention that these kids have played 11 STRAIGHT.  I was watching a game Sat. evening and the commentators were saying how one of the teams was playing their 10th straight game, they commented on how tired that team looked now.  When I heard that I wondered how tired will my team look, tonight against UGA.

Thats AU's fault for wanting 2 weeks to prep for Alabama. Auburn makes, what, the 5th team on our schedule to take a bye before they play us?

The only thing that worries me about AU having a bye week is Malzahn having two weeks to scheme against our defense. Utah outschemed us, and it certainly can be done again. However, I think we're a little more prepared for that sort of thing this season. We handled MSU quite well, and while they clearly don't have the athletes UF has, they run the exact same offense. We did very well against the misdirection, especially.

BTW...Birdman you were straight on with your rant.  Gus was a clusterfuck with this game....big time.  It almost seemed to me like the first two drives were scripted, and then we had to make shit up after that.   It is not all Gus's fault of course as our players were shitty again on execution.

Couple of things I noticed...

- We do much better when we keep the pace up...when they get up to the line and hike it, with 20 secs left.  When we get up there and do our imitation of the meerkat and end up hiking it with 5 secs left, not so good.

- What happened to the bubble screen to Fannin, how about letting our playmakers get into open space and do their thing.  The play calling after the first two drives was atrocious, but the final 2 downs were ridiculous, when you have 3 down and a mile why do you try and go for it all?  We all know that we will be going for it on fourth, why not connect on a high percentage completion and get some yards (ie screen)

- Why do we always find it necessary to drive up the middle on a 3 and 1?  Do we not know what a toss sweep is...or how about a little option with Kodi Burns.

I agree. I believe the reasons we "gear it down" are 1) our defensive depth and coaching is pitiful and they need time to reset on the sidelines; 2) Gus outthinks himself a lot. It's a common problem for high school coaches.

Fannin fumbles a lot or, more likely, we weren't doing jack with speed runs to the outside against them.

Any plays involving Kodi Burns automatically carry a 55% chance of complete failure. I, for one, don't understand why on that 3rd and inches late in the game we have to do all that smoke and mirrors to run a dive play. Again, Gus outthinks the stadium and it fails.

The thing is, with ole Todd back there, who knows what really is going on.  We went deep on third, but maybe that's Todd waiting his usual .0005 seconds to go through progressions before deciding what he's going to do and sticking to it no matter what else happens.

Maybe Gus had the deep guy to stretch the field and create more space in intermediate routes...who knows.

I will say this, no matter how things looked, we did get down the field, and Todd did make a great throw to Fannin at the goal line.  He holds on to the ball, all of the sudden Gus, Todd, etc don't all look quite as stupid and incompetent.

Fannin, however, in my opinion, is best when he gets the ball handed to him in the back field.  He is capable of catching it, and he's capable of doing things in space.  But too often he doesn't do as well as he is capable of doing.  I feel like he's more consistent coming from the backfield as a true running back.

I definitely agree with the pace thing.  Rhythm seems to be a huge key to these guys....players and play caller.

Kodi from the wild cat definitely isn't doing much these days (or this year since the Miss State game).

What was most irritating involving Kodi in that game though was the penalty that killed his pass play.  We keep him in there, going in motion, etc play after play so that we can set up using him on a pass play.  It works perfectly for what, 30+ yard gain down to the 20...only to have it called back for having two men in motion.

There is nothing more irritating than setting up a play that you can only run effectively once every 3 games, only to piss it away on a freaking penalty.

Okay, I can feel my blood pressure going up again.   :puke:

Eric Smith must have been tired from the Furman game.

May be a crazy analogy here but I liken Gus' playcalling to that of Steve Superior in his heyday at UF.  He was just as likely to call a triple reverse on 3rd and 1 as anything.  Spurrier rarely worried about strategy because he knew that 90% plus of the time he was going in with way more talent than the opponent.  It would occasionally bite him in the butt, as it did against Auburn twice when he kept chunking the ball around with the game in hand.

The most distrubing call of the night to me was one seemingly docile play where Tate goes up the middle for 6-7 on first.  Our D is tired and in need of a break.  Instead of pounding it...or running a sweep or a swing pass..whatever..something to get a first down, he has Todd drop back and heave it 30 yards downfield up for grabs.  It's literally like he's brought his bag of tricks and just calls whatever the next play is that comes out of that bag.  He was constantly calling the Mildcats over the last 5-6 games in situations that all you can do is ask "Why?"  1st down from our own 25?  Why?

And when it's apparent that as the game went longer and longer, their D-line was pinning their ears back and coming after Todd.  Still...he calls slow developing pass play after slow developing pass play.  Just no rhyme or reason to what's being called.

It's probably old school thinking on my part but in most scenarios where you get a nice gain on 1st down, leaving yourself with 2-5 yards to go, my first objective is to do what it takes to move the chains.  I understand taking a shot more downfield if you have a yard or less and feel confident about pounding it out on 3rd.  But especially when the D is in the situation ours is in, you need to get the first and take a few minutes off the clock.

I only remember one time I lost it on this subject. We had a 9 yd gain on first and that left us with 2nd and 1. And we run it up the gut for the first down. Why? NOW is the time to take a shot sown field. Like someone else said, Malzahn seemed to be reaching into a bag and calling whatever he pulled out.

The intermediate routes I like are the ones to Eric Smith.

Buzz can help me out here but I believe the first pass Todd threw in the scrimmage the week before the season was a slant.  It wasn't the real quick hitter but was about 10-15 yards downfield.  Todd threw a bullet and the crowd all kind of breathed a sigh of relief because it was obvious his arm strength was 10X what we saw last year.

Todd is one of the better passers with the crossing routes that we have seen here in a while (he was 9-9 the first two drives). He sees the short to medium field across the middle really well. Why we do not use it more is beyond me. The first two drives, we ate the middle up. After that I think we only had like 3 passes down the middle. The slant out of the spread is a tough pass. The slant usually goes to the slot guy and more likely is run from under center. Throwing a slant to any one from the shotgun is tough. You really want to hit that slant right out of the break. Unfortunately the ball is in the air from the center to the QB while the break is happening. That is probably why we do not see it more. But having the lanes cleared out and running a drag should be staple pass. Find out if the LB is on a fast slot guy and then run it. Hard for an LB to cover a WR.

To his credit the first couple of years, Terry Bowden had a bad azz drag route designed.  They seemed to hit it at just the right time too.

Yup.  I believe that was the first and last time we have seen the slant in action.  Maybe they've been saving it for the bammer game, since the Utes had so much success with it last year?!?

Lay off Troop...he just does what he does...

My disdain for Taylor isn't a personal thing. I've met him; he's a nice guy. I just think he gets a lot of undeserved hype for coaching and recruiting. Tommy Thigpen is way more of a recruiter.

While I might agree that Thig is a better recruiter, I don't think Taylor's is all hype.

Taylor was lead recruiter on: Coleman, Reed, Bonomolo and Goodwin.  That list is nothing to scoff at.

I still say Sonny Bono is too small to play DE.  And being dead doesn't help with that speed rush thing either.

It's interesting to me you can have "disdain" for someone that's admittedly a nice guy and isn't bad at what he does.

He may not be as good of a recruiter as he's sometimes made out to be, but he certainly holds his own and isn't strictly hype by any means.

As far as being a coach...just look at the units and players he's coached everywhere he's been.  He coached four receivers at Tulane that spent time in the NFL.  At Tennessee he coached Riggs Jr. and Cedric Houston to be the only tandem of 1000 backs ever at UT.  He coached Jayson Swain, Bret Smith and Robert Meachem at UT, then, after losing all three, he coached Lucas Taylor, Austin Rogers, and Josh Briscoe to 2,130 yards receiving the next year.  (thanks wiki).

Add a pretty successful group this year, including a former nobody Darvin Adams.

Anyway, he may get some extra hype because of his personality, but I don't really get what there is to "disdain", especially considering he is one of our coaches and has hardly been a weak link in the staff or anything like that.
