SEC fines Meyer $30,000
ESPN.com news services
Florida coach Urban Meyer has been fined $30,000 by the Southeastern Conference for public comments about a call he said game officials missed during last week's game against Georgia, the conference announced Friday.
It's the first time the SEC has fined a coach under bylaws the conference toughened late last month, following a spate of public comments about officiating by SEC coaches.
"Coach Meyer has violated the Southeastern Conference code of ethics," commissioner Mike Slive said. "SEC bylaw 10.5.4 clearly states that the coaches, players and support personnel shall refrain from public criticism of officials. The league's athletics directors and presidents and chancellors have made it clear that negative public comments on officiating are not acceptable."
Wednesday, Meyer said he believes SEC officials missed a late hit on Tim Tebow in Saturday's game against Georgia.
Meyer said Wednesday the crew calling the game should have flagged Bulldogs linebacker Nick Williams for knocking his quarterback to the ground well after he had gotten rid of the football.

I seem to hate Bourboun Cryer more every year but....here's a novel idea. Train the officials and demand that they do a better job than the pee-wee league guys around here. I have no dog n the fight but criminiy...how do you miss this? What posseses an official to call a "Celebration" penalty against AJ Green and then Charles Scott in the UGA/LSU game? How do you F up so many obvious calls or no calls in one season?

I thought suspension was the new penalty.
Slive is a pussy.

I'd sign the check and lick the stamp while at a press conference. LOL Do it on camera and make a big show out of it again. Saying "I'm mailing my CHECK in for my FINE about a HIDEOUSLY obvious call that the SEC REF did NOT make."
Be melodramatic, then write it for $30,000.01 and say "it's a down payment for the next time an SEC official blows something so stupid that I have to speak up."
lmao

I would suddenly have a new found respect for Bourbon Cryer.

What a freaking joke. So Meyer gets hit with a hefty fine for asking officials to do their job correctly, yet he gets off scott free (Slive too) for responding to assault with a half game suspension.
Slive knows fining one of the richest coaches (with boosters who will more than likely take care of this for him) isn't going to teach any kind of lesson. It's chump change to these guys, but it looks like a lot to us simple folk. He cares about his SEC golden boys winning and cares nothing about enforcing rules and maintaining a league of integrity.
I can't wait to see how awful the calls are in the Iron Bowl if Alabama is undefeated. I'm sure it will be more than laughable.

That would be absolutely fuckin' hilarious.

I'm surprised they quit jacking off Tebow long enough to fine him.
