According to the Pittsburg Tribune-Review:
Pitt defensive coordinator Rhoads accepts Auburn job
By Kevin Gorman
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Thursday, January 17, 2008
After eight seasons as Pitt's defensive coordinator, Paul Rhoads has accepted an offer to become Auburn's defensive coordinator.
Rhoads interviewed Wednesday with Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, who has been searching for a replacement for Will Muschamp, who left to become defensive coordinator at Texas.
Rhoads, 40, who has been Pitt's defensive coordinator since 2000, already had turned down Auburn once, when offered the same position by Tuberville in 2002. Pitt made a counteroffer and extended his contract, and Rhoads was retained when Dave Wannstedt replaced Walt Harris in '04.
The high-energy Rhoads spent seven seasons as Pitt's secondary coach, developing NFL talents such as Torrie Cox, Shawntae Spencer and Darrelle Revis, before taking over the linebackers this past fall, where junior Scott McKillop developed into a third-team All-American.
Under Rhoads direction, the Panthers' defense struggled for a few seasons before recovering this fall to rank first in the Big East Conference and fifth nationally -- one spot ahead of Auburn -- in total defense at 297.67 yards per game. Rhoads became a coveted candidate following Pitt's 13-9 upset victory over then-No. 2 West Virginia on Dec. 1, when the Panthers held the Mountaineers to 183 total yards -- 291.8 below their average -- and just 104 rushing yards.

Brian Matthews really nailed this story.

Any further confirmation yet? Until it spews from Tubs mouth I don't believe it.
-
It's been confirmed. It's the front page story for Rivals and Scout.
-
Cool...Tommy must have read my list of candidates.

I'm ready for A-Day...Franklin and the new spread offense vs. Rhoads and the classic, already established defensive scheme. I found it interesting that Rhoads won't be bringing many changes, but will be taking the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to coaching our defense. Makes you think that Muschamp maybe didn't have too much of an influence except to fire up the squad with his passion. Probably goes back to the fact (which many here have said) that Tubs will always have an established defensive plan that works...most of the time... no matter who his defensive coordinator is.
-
Since I'm to fucking lazy to look this up for myself, does he run the 3-4 or 4-3 scheme?
Thanks in advance. :vn:

He would have been hired a week ago but Tubbs could'nt find DKW to get his approval. The drill press was working ovetime last week!!

You should come to the scrimmage either right before or right after A-Day, depending on how the schedule works out this year. It is always much better than the A-Day game. They show more, and is much harder hitting. Tuberville doesn't like doing much at all at the A-Day game.

Sorry to break it to you -
But the two candidates are Paul Rhoads and me. Coach Townhallsavoy.
We'll be running the 2-2-2-2-2-1 defense. Don't bother asking about the defensive scheme. It's too much for you. You wouldn't understand.
