Title: I thought July was going to be much bigger for Auburn recruiting
Post by: Birmingham on July 27, 2009, 10:48:38 PM
I posted at the end of June that I thought July was going to be a huge recruiting month for Auburn as far as having top prospects commit in droves.  It goes without saying that it's only July and there's still 6+ months left until NSD but I don't think I was the only one that thought this way.  Perry had a list of prospects he thought would commit in July, I haven't gone back and looked at it yet but it seems that they fell a little flat for what the expectations were.  If I'm remembering right (though there's a few days left in the month) Auburn ended up with 1 4* and 4-5 3*'s.  Were you guys expecting more?

Fuck yeah!  It's finally August!  One more month until football...I'm so sick and tired of following the lives of teenagers in high school.

FTFY.

Eric Mack did commit, just not to Auburn.  LaDarius was set to decide on Friday, but has now said that he'll hold off, until later.  Dyer and Mosley, could still commit, eventhough I see Dyer committing now before Mosley does.

So, of that list:
WR Antonio Goodwin ****
CB Jonathan Mincy ***
S DJ Howard ***
DE Joel Bonomolo JUCO
OL Chad Slade NR
DT Kenneth Carter ***

with four more days left in July to go.

I guess hoped would be a better word for me to use but I have never gotten too caught up over who verbals and who doesn't.  Like you said, it's still  6 months till their commitment means anything.

Actually, if Alabama has taught us anything this offseason, a commitment might not mean shit even after February.

Personally, I think we need to show up on the field to have a good class.  The verbals now don't mean anything till they sign on the x.  Chizik and crew needs to put up or shut-up and we will get recruits.  So the answer to your question is no because I really have no expectations at this point.

Birmingham's basing his expectations on his life experiences.

He's used to being told people expected things to be bigger.

If it makes you guys feel any better, Dudley Dawson, one of the Arkansas recruiting gurus, predicts Dyer will sign with Auburn.

It is early. The good thing is that not many three stars have commmitted so awbarn still has plenty of time to fill their class. Good luck!

You tools act like these guys have all signed with others already or something.  Some have, some might down the road, part of it. The events may not have happened as some believed in July specifically, but the efforts, opportunities and players are still in the mix for Auburn. That hasn't changed.

None of us bammers are trying to act like we know where these boys are going or when they're committing to go there, we're just calling out the people who act like they do.

Understood.  Kind of like calling out Scissors when he declared Auburn's recruiting class a "disaster" in December last year.  Gotcha.

In December, Auburn put a lot of work in to find themselves on the 4th of February with the team they did.

I'd say a commitment about every 5 days isn't too shabby, definiately not the fireworks of a Michael Dyer or Lache Seastrunk.  But, of the two, MD was the only one that I felt would commit and that he would bring along his teammate, Dakota Mosley.  Now, it's looking like DM will wait until the end of the season and MD will commit somewhere around the middle.  So, call me out all ya want....but, I'd take the commitments that we just landed this past month, any year.

Well, you're the one that said you "know things", so we thought we could take that as the Gospel.

Not every year. Go look at the other SEC schools. Just about everyone has their class filled with a few names still left on their board. Auburn has all of the big names still waiting. We have 2 4*....2.

If Auburn finished the year right now in recruiting, we wouldn't be in the top 25. If Alabama, LSU, UGA, UF finished now, they would all probably be in the top 10.

I think the rational perception of the outcome is somewhere in the middle.

Think of it this way. If there are plenty of 4 & 5*s still out there, and most of our competition has less than a handful of spots available, where will they go?

Would I rather secure these guys now? Hell yeah. Am I ready to declare the sky has fallen until February? No sir.
