....Nothing short of amazing if he pulls this off at the British Open this morning. 2 months shy of his 60th b'day. When others his age are playing their last days on the Senior Tour or purely playing for ceremonial paychecks and appearance fees... This is pretty impressive.

He fucking choked. Hit a great tee shot off 18. Another really good approach coming into the green that got away from him just a bit. Then choke. CHOKE CHOKE CHOKE. The putt off the green was less than impressive. And then the putt for par was just plain horrible. That looked like it was one of my putts. He never gave it a shot. decellerated and totally fouled that putt up. It looked horrible. I wouldn't thin a man with 8 majors at 59 years olld would hit that bad of a putt. I guess he hasn't had a putt with that significance to it in a LONG LONG time. The pressure got to the poor old bastard...

Nope, I think the jinx was when the freakin' commentators were talking like he already had it won when he tapped in his birdie putt on the 17th hole. I was yelling out the TV telling them to shut up. After he the bogey on the 18th, I really wish I could have traveled to Ireland very quickly just so I could punch whoever it was in the booth that screwed it up. Who was it anyway? Azinger?

On the other hand...Stewart Cink plays a ton on the tour and has finally realized the fruits of his labor. He's a hilarious interview if you can ever catch it. Congrats to the hometown player.

Word. Cink is always on the verge but seems to do something to fade late in the big ones. I'm glad to see him nail this one down and maybe this is a breakthrough for him.

At any rate, North gets the nod because it seemed like such a stunning comment. Part of the whole Watson ride was the disbelief everybody felt – millions of us watching at home, bewildered scribes in the press tent, analysts like Paul Azinger and Judy Rankin, who freely commented on Watson’s sometimes tentative putting stroke at key times – at what we were seeing. Part of the bargain was, nobody acted like it was a fait accompli that Watson would do this. Instead, we all kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and when it never did, we sort of treated the whole thing like a no-hitter. Tom Watson winning the British Open? It was so remarkably astounding to think it, nobody came out and said it.
That’s why North’s words hung in the air, heavy and shocking. Did he just say that? I know North said it to put positive energy in the air for his good buddy, but I had the gnawing feeling, for a fleeting second, that he just jinxed the whole thing. Shoot!

I wasn't watching and didn't hear it, but that would not please the karma gods and I now understand why Watson shanked the put.
