Title: A Favor
Post by: boartitz on June 01, 2009, 12:22:00 PM
Please Vote for Layne Bass. She is the wife of a friend of mine and she needs to be in 10th place in this contest to win a prize.
I think she has one of the better programs in this contest. You can read the details when you click the link. She wants to use the camera to record stories from our veterans.
If you know anyone else who may vote, please pass this along. Today is the last day.
Thanks

   Project Title
So We Won't Forget

Description
We all know that students have "brain-drain" over the summer and don't retain everything they've been taught, but what about those ESL students who are learning English for the first time? Because they normally don't speak English in their home, some students go all summer without hearing or speaking English. The "So We Won't Forget" project pairs these newly-arrived 8th and 9th graders with war veterans from a local VA hospital. The students meet with their elder partner throughout the summer to conduct interviews and spend time with the veterans. Students will use the FlipCam to record their interviews. At the end of the summer they produce a video biography of their partner and present it to them at a ceremony in the veterans' honor. This project assures that students don't forget the English skills they have learned and preserves the history and sacrifices of those who have served our country with honor.

How will I use the money:
The money will be used for supplies to create veterans' biographies, transportation to and from the veterans' hospital, and food and materials for the concluding banquet.

Who will benefit:
This will benefit students who are new to the United States and United States veterans.

Where:
Springdale, Arkansas

When will my project take place:
June-July 2009

How will you use the FlipCam to document your idea?
Students will use the FlipCam to record interviews with their veteran and to create a video biography.

Why I want to do this:
Not only is it important for these ESL students to practice their English skills during the summer, it is also important for them to learn more about the people and history of their new country.

That's what I was wondering too.

To the OP - if she wins, will you post pictures of her naked or in a skimpy swimsuit?
