Not that anyone cares, but since most of you goobers are in bammer, I thought this would be the perfect spot to brag about my old man, the retired cop, and his new career as a wildlife educator. He is involved with a birding group, and is part of the Autauga Bluebird Trail project. Back in February, he showed a buncha kids from one of the Elmore County high schools how to build and install bluebird houses. One of his plans is to get at risk kids out into the Alabama Nature Center for some community service projects. He may be old but he is still a cop at heart.
Again, I know this is not interesting to anyone but me, but here are some pictures of the old man - he is the guy in the khaki vest, blue long sleeved shirt and khaki pants.

Retired cop or not, you're old man is ok in my book. Anybody that gives of their time for kids is doing the right thing.

He got out of the Air Force in 1970 after I was born and went to the police academy. He was a cop in Auburn while he was a student there. Then he was a state po-po - undercover narc - worked all over the place - buying and selling on the state docks in Mobile, prescription fraud in BHM... he used to come home looking NASTY at times... Then he got out of that stuff when an informant that he cut loose told him what I had worn to school that day... but that's another story that he should tell himself... Then he got into investigations of product liability that had possible criminal implications - window fans that burst into flames and killed a sleeping child, etc. Once my sister came along, he gave it all up for more money, and became a state farm agent. But he stayed in the game - he was a reserve sheriff's deputy in Calhoun County for many years and served as the police commissioner for my tiny little hometown while I was in high school, effectively killing what little social life I had. He taught criminal justice at Jacksonville State for a few years until he and mom moved to Wetumpka.

So what you are saying is that I need to call my people and tell them that your daddy is trying to steal all of our bluebirds from Autauga county and get them to move to Elmore county?

Good stuff! Agree with everyone else. Anytime you take with kids, especially at risk one's is an admirable thing in my book.
