Title: Socialists to get their Super-majority
Post by: Tarheel on April 28, 2009, 12:36:11 PM
Drudge is reporting that Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) will indeed switch parties in a cheap political stunt to get re-elected and to give the Democrats godless socialists their super-majority in the senate (60 seats); with the imminent seating of Al Franken that will put them over-the-top to do whatever the fuck they want to in the Senate.

Sickening.  Well, Specter is a fucking RINO anyway.  At this point he might as well change sides and take Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) with him...two less RINOs that are needed.  Maybe he'll loose his re-election bid in 2010...hope springs eternal, eh?

Here's an excerpt from the story Drudge has up from the Human Events political blog, all emphasis is my own:

Arlen Specter Switching Parties Today
by  Human Events

HUMAN EVENTS has learned from staff sources that Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa) is about to announce his switch to the Democratic Party.

Specter, a five-term Republican and ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, is facing a tough primary challenge next year from former Club for Growth president Pat Toomey.  He was one of the three Republicans to support President Obama’s stimulus bill, and his liberal approach to many issues -- from his devoted opposition to the Supreme Court nomination of Robert Bork to his support for illegal alien amnesty programs -- earned him a low ACU rating of 43 in 2006.  This switch will give the Democrats their 60-seat filibuster-proof majority.

According to the Washington Post, Specter said today, "I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary," said Specter in a statement. "I am ready, willing and anxious to take on all comers and have my candidacy for re-election determined in a general election."

Get ready to have socialism crammed down our throats like never before.  I tried watching a little bit of his speech on FoxNews and it literally makes me want to puke.

To further infuriate me over the ramifications of this 'change' I just received a Twitter message from the RNC asking if I'd like to leave a good-bye message for Sen. Spectre!

"Yeah, I would!  Get the fuck out and don't let the fucking door hit you in the ass!  Good bye and good riddance!"

There are times to be genteel, gracious, and polished but this is NOT one of them.

Reid will have him in line in no time then there will be no stopping whatever agenda The ONE wants to shove through Congress.

Yeah, but its not really a "loss" for the Repub's. He was one of the most liberal "republicans" in office. Just because he changes sides doesn't mean its any more of an uphill battle for Republican agenda. The SOB was already voting against party lines.  I say fuck him in da mouf.

You are correct in that it's not a terrible loss for the Republican Party with the exception of putting the Democrats godless socialists all that closer to the 60 seat super-majority in the Senate.

But in hindsight perhaps that doesn't matter since he was a RINO anyway and didn't vote against The ONE's (and, sadly, Bush's) spending spree bills.

By the way, don't buy into Specter's rhetoric over 'the Republican Party leaving him, etc.'.  He's full of it.  The real reason he left is that he was facing a formidable primary opponent who would have beat him.  This SOB didn't want to loose his seat and as is usual with these what seems like all of these senate bums he was thinking more in his own self-interest and self-preservation in this move.

Isn't Specter 80 years old?

There's an age minimum for the president (35).  Why isn't there a maximum age for politicians?  80?  Can't do anything but shit and drool at 80.

Sorry to revive a slightly dated thread but this update was too rich...

Excerpt from Roll Call, all emphasis is my own:

Quote
Specter Will Be Junior Democrat on Committees
By John Stanton
Roll Call Staff
May 5, 2009

Despite promises from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) that Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.) would retain his seniority after switching parties, Specter will be put at the end of the seniority line on all his committees but one under a resolution approved on the floor late Tuesday.

Under the modified organizing resolution, Specter will not keep his committee seniority on any of the five committees that he serves on and will be the junior Democrat on all but one — the chamber’s Special Committee on Aging. On that committee, he will be next to last in seniority.

Specter is not helping himself any with his Democrat socialist friends, he apparently wants Norm Coleman (R-MN) to be seated in the Minnesota senate race, still being contested by the loathsome Al Franken...this excerpt is from "The Daily Beast", all emphasis is my own:

Quote
Specter: Coleman Should Win

In an irreverent interview with The New York Times Magazine’ Deborah Solomon, Sen. Arlen Specter says Norm Coleman should win the contested Minnesota Senate seat—to the chagrin, surely, of his Democratic supporters, who want him to toe the party line. “There’s still time for the Minnesota courts to do justice and declare Norm Coleman the winner,” he said, in response to Solomon asking if he minded that there will be no more Republican Jews in the Senate.
