Just got off the phone with an NFL general manager. He was not at the Alabama Pro Day, but relayed to me the report he had been given via phone from one of his scouts. I asked him to characterize the impression he received from the scout regarding Smith with one word. His word: "disappointing."
Smith measured in at 6-4 1/4, 325 pounds and was timed in the high 5.2s to low 5.3s in the 40-yard dash. He also posted only 19 repetitions of 225 pounds, a surprisingly low number considering the strength he shows on the gridiron. The bench press number won't concern scouts too much due to the fact that Smith has very long arms (35 5/8"), but the number is still surprisingly low.
The GM still expected to see Smith ultimately drafted between 10-20 and referred to Smith's film and interviews at the Combine as the reason why. Apparenty, despite sounding unprepared and silly, at times, when fielding questions for the media, Smith was more effective in his conversations with teams.

And, he ran his 40....Without a shirt on, :puke: :puke: bet that was a fuckin' scary site.
Alabama offensive tackle Andre Smith’s campus workout today in front of NFL scouts was a “disaster,” according to Tony Pauline of SI.com.
Quoting an unnamed scout, Pauline writes that Smith’s lack of preparation was obvious as he was overweight. One scout called the performance, “one of the worst workouts I’ve ever seen.”
Another AFC East scout told Pauline: “He lost millions today.”
As a league source told us earlier today, Smith ran with his shirt off.
According to Pauline, comments were made about “the flab and the rolls on his body” during Smith’s 40-yard dashes as he posted times between 5.21 and 5.29 seconds.
Per the article, several scouts weren’t happy to travel a long way only to witness a bad workout. And Smith’s trainers were not pleased, either.

I just saw Andre Smith's Pro Day workout on the NFL Network.....All I can say is, he needs a fuckin' "Bro" ($1 to Kramer from Seinfeld)....Seriously, it was fuckin' disgusting.
   Coach midget just stated that Andre never had a problem with being in shape.

Where the is JohnDeere to defend Smith from all of these people "throwing him under the bus"?? Come on JD, aren't you Andre Smith's personal internet defender? Stupid fuck.
Anyway, as I've said before: Andre's fucking up. Its like he walked into this whole NFL thing thinking all he had to do was show up and he would be an instant millionaire. Sad to see him end up this way. I'm sure he will still make some dough, but damn....

To be fair - he is still going to be an instant millionaire. It might only be a few million instead of 25.
-
Ugh, he's screwed up so much recently.
-
The thing that irritates me is that all he had to do is put forth about 25% more effort in the weightroom and take away about 25% from the dinner table...and Andre would've probably been the Top 2 taken in April. Damn man. I hope he gets his fuckin' shit together, dumps that piece of shit agent, hires a Real Agent, and gets signed by the Chargers to play RT or one of the Guard positions.
To tell ya the truth....I'd take "Trigger Fish" Caldwell, right now, over Andre.

"I did outstanding"

TUSCALOOSA -- Andre Smith weighed in at 325 pounds, ran a 40-yard dash at 5.28 seconds and worked through a variety of agility and blocking drills at Alabama's pro day today in hopes of restoring what some see as a sagging NFL Draft status.
"It's as light as I've been in a long time -- about three years ago," Smith said of his weight. "But this is the chance of a lifetime. Not many people get the opportunity to get drafted in the NFL."
"I think I did an outstanding job."
Smith joined nine other Crimson Tide players in working out for NFL scouts, joining Antoine Caldwell, Marlon Davis, Glen Coffee, John Parker Wilson, Rashad Johnson, Travis McCall, Nick Walker, Nikita Stover and Bobby Greenwood. Former Crimson Tide receiver Matt Caddell also participated.
Full results of the drills were not released and Smith would not divulge his numbers but his agent, Alvin Keels, confirmed Smith's weight and 40 time.
New York Giants offensive line coach Pat Flaherty, who conducted blocking drills with Smith, Caldwell and Davis, said Smith looked good but still has room for improvement.
"He looked better. He can still get better, and he will once he stays after his routine and conditioning," Flaherty said. "I was looking for how he moved on the field. I watched him on tape; he's a very good football player. I was anxious to see what type of condition he was in and what he's done since the season ended. We got some answers."
Smith chose not to work out at the NFL combine in Indianapolis last month and left the event abruptly without informing anyone, reportedly irking scouts and possibly hurting his draft status. Smith said he regretted skipping out on the event, but was anxious to resume workouts.
"If I had to do it over again, I would handle it differently," he said. "I just made a bad decision in leaving, but I think I made a good football decision in getting back to work with my personal trainer.
"All I an do is do what I did today, as far as performing well," added Smith, who met with several teams during the day. "They really said I did an outstanding job. I did good in my position-oriented drills and I did really good in my testing."

Good Lord, it's about time Rashad Johnson left. He was playing DB for Bammie about the same time The Governor, Franklin Williams, was shooting jumpers on Teh Planes.

Rick Karle pretty much said the same thing last night. From his perspective, "Jugs" ranks right up there with John Hannah.

I feel like giving him a hug, but I'm afraid I'd knock him down and scouts would send him even farther down their lists.

In all seriousness why the fuck are these bammer bobo honkers lying about this?
What purpose does that serve? So when draft day comes and he doesn't go when he "should" bammers can be disappointed?
