Tracy Rocker on his new Auburn defensive line: `The thing I'm looking forward to is hard work'

Tracy Rocker is big enough to coach the defensive line all by himself.

The former Auburn All-American and College Football Hall of Famer said Monday he'll handle the defensive tackles and defensive ends for Gene Chizik, and that's a departure from Tommy Tuberville's coaching staff that divided up the tackles and ends among two coaches.

``One thing I know about playing about playing down there is there is not an off down,'' Rocker said in a late Monday afternoon. ``You have to play every snap.''

Perhaps it would be best if Auburn's current players follow that thought if they want to impress their new coach.

``We have our work cut out. The thing I'm looking forward to is hard work.''

Rocker, who is leaving Ole Miss, said returning to Auburn where he starred in the 1980s is ``a great honor.''

``I always wanted to be known as a great coach. I'm not a player anymore. I'm a coach.''

Rocker said he remembers defensive coordinator Ted Roof as a player at Georgia Tech - when Rocker played at Auburn - and heard good things about him since as a coach.

``In the coaching world, I always heard he was a great guy to work for,'' Rocker said.

Congrats on the hire. I may be wrong, but I think Rocker is an up and comer and will end up being a pretty good DC soon.
Best of luck to him... 11 games a year.
