Title: The ONE to Close Gitmo
Post by: Tarheel on January 12, 2009, 07:46:03 PM
Not that it comes as a real surprise but where the hell do you imagine the fine, upstanding, practitioners of the religion of perpetual rage quartered there will be sent to continue to enjoy their Halal friendly meals after the 'challenge' of closing it goes into effect?

Any guesses on what that 'series of executive orders' will be?

This is from al-AP, as usual all emphasis is my own:

Advisers say Obama preparing to close Gitmo

[12 Jan 2009]

By LARA JAKES – 1 hour ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Barack Obama is preparing to issue an executive order his first week in office — and perhaps his first day — to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, according to two presidential transition team advisers. It's unlikely the detention facility at the Navy base in Cuba will be closed anytime soon. In an interview last weekend, Obama said it would be "a challenge" to close it even within the first 100 days of his administration.

But the order, which one adviser said could be issued as early as Jan. 20, would start the process of deciding what to do with the estimated 250 al-Qaida and Taliban suspects and potential witnesses who are being held there. Most have not been charged with a crime.

The Guantanamo directive would be one of a series of executive orders Obama is planning to issue shortly after he takes office next Tuesday, according to the two advisers. Also expected is an executive order about certain interrogation methods, but details were not immediately available Monday.

They just need to gas up the joint and burn it to the ground... We can claim that it was an attempted escape and kill every single one of those "peaceful" people in one simple action.

I did hear something about the UK being willing to take several of them.  That might be the right option.  I just don't trust The Obama to do the right thing.

This is nothing more then a PR stunt.....Non-issue.

There is a PUC(Persons Under Confinement) facility at BAF (Bagram Airfield) in Afghanistan large enough to take all of these thugs and probably 1000 more and another huge PUC at KAF (Kandahar Airfield). If the media was smart enough to watch the federal contract advertisements for the two facilities, they would have realized this was coming and reported it as such. But, instead we get the drive-by media proclaiming that the "ONE" is bringing WORLD PEACE. I remember seeing the solicitation on the one at BAF for 75-120 million. I am too lazy to look it up and post the link.

The good thing about these thugs being in Afghanistan, the Red Cresent and Amenesty International aren't around keeping a head count and inspecting the living conditions and meals.

I'm shocked!  Shocked that ANY follower of the religion of perpetual rage would 'return' to terrorism! (sarcasm)

This report follows hot-on-the-heels of the report about the closing of Gitmo, from FoxNews...all emphasis is my own, as usual:

Pentagon: Guantanamo Detainees Returning to Terrorism
The number of Gitmo detainees who rejoined terrorist missions after being released is on the rise, according to the Pentagon.

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

WASHINGTON -- Terror suspects who have been held but released from Guantanamo Bay are increasingly returning to the fight against the United States and its allies, the Pentagon said Tuesday.

Sixty-one detainees released from the U.S. Navy base prison in Cuba are believed to have rejoined the fight, said Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell, citing data from December. That's up from 37 as of March 2008, Morrell said.

The new figures come as President-elect Barack Obama prepares to issue an executive order during his first week in office to close the controversial prison.

I say let them all move to Chicago and then build a big fence around the city
