Title: Tray Blackmon to NF...wait... CFL!
Post by: Townhallsavoy on January 08, 2009, 05:44:02 PM
Supposedly, Blackmon will skip his senior season to join the CFL.  Bryan Matthews is waiting for official confirmation but believes it's a done deal.

Wait, wait.  Sorry.  Best of luck to the guy.

I normally don't say anything negative about a player, but good riddance.  May be one of the most over rated players to ever strap on the orange and blue.  More trouble than he was worth.  Bynes made him look like a little leaguer in comparison.

I hear Chris Slaughter is transferring too.

What position did he play?

Yeah, I remember all those hyping to finally get him in a game when he was suspended. All I heard was on how much of a stud he was and all of that. He is one of the many examples on why I don't get into all the hype about recruits until they show me what they can do on a Div-1 football field.

Blackmon had his moments, but he did not live up to the hype. The again, I don't know if any recruit could have lived up to what many were saying he could do.

Unlike Powers, Blackmon going pro makes no sense at all. He has yet to play a full season at Auburn, and as we have already commented, his numbers are not exactly what NFL scouts are looking for. Sad thing is that he had apparently already made this decision before the season was even over and while he was sitting the bench because of a nearly season long injury.

I actually think the play of Bynes had as much to do with Blackmon sitting as his nagging injuries.

What position did he play?

A hybrid position that involved swatting a ball away while on offense.  Very strange.  Not a Malzahn style WR from what I've understood.

Could be. That goes back to the fact he just did not live up to the expectations.

The only reason that Blackmon has for leaving is because he has 3 kids. He got himself into a tough situation in which he needs to be supporting his family now and it probably can't wait another year, especially for what may be only a possibility, nothing guaranteed. That, I can't fault him for.
