I believe Rivals is now reporting it as well.  Here is Roof's Bio:

I know that he was the DC at Minnesota this year, was HC at Duke before Cutcliff and he was a DC at GA Tech before that.  Heard rumors that he was on Tubbs short list of DC's that he would have hired, don't know  if that is true or not.

If true, this would be the first Chizik hire I would be less than thrilled about.

Minnesota gave up 42 to Kansas in their bowl game losing 42 to 21, and their defense was nonexistent in the last game of the season, losing to Iowa 55-0 :jaw:

Seriously?

Uh...he's got lots of experience.

I got nothing else.

His defenses at Ga Tech were always pretty strong.  I actually think that this will turn out to be a pretty good hire.

I hope you are right, he did manage to take the gophers from 119 in total D to 79, but I don't know how much of that was attributed to the Big 10 being terrible, players with another years of experience or how much of it was his coaching.  I not as excited about this hire as others, but from what I have read so far, I am not freaked out either.

Chizad:  I don't like the way his D played their last two games either.  I am willing to overlook it somewhat though, I always thought BOOM had us playing good D but he was pwned by UGA so I can overlook a bad performance or two, but it does make you wonder what happened.

Similar to Tuberville, I feel that the defense will be Chizik's baby anyway.

His heyday was at GT...and he has been underwhelming since then.  I believe he took the Gopher D from dead last in almost every category to the low 70's in his only year there.

Then by all means allow me...  :puke: :puke:

Just joking. I know but a glimpse of his history and most of that is what has already been posted here.  I'm undecided either way but willing to give him the benefit of the doubt based on Chiziks ability to seemingly put together a solid coaching staff thus far.

This is the correct answer.

This is the correct answer.
I know, this is exactly why he went balls out when he hired the Offensive side of the staff.  He doesn't know shit about offense, therefore he made good choices.  He realizes that the defense will be his monster to mold.

Get excited.  Tuberville almost hired this guy last year.  He's a good coach who hasn't had a good opportunity.  He had respectable defenses at Duke and completely turned around Minnesota's horrid defense last year.

He's also a big time recruiter in Gwinnett County.  That's that county in Atlanta with lots of black kids kids who can compete in the SEC.

From what I've heard, this coming from a former player of three years, under Coach Roof at Georgia Institute of Technology, is that he is a Really Good Recruiter, a Great Coach, and even a better Man.  The guy said that to give you an idea of what Coach Roof is like on the football field, think Coach Muschamp.....only 10 years older and wiser (I think he means, he's not going to be bat shit crazy, all of the time).

I think this is a Great hire (read; not as big of a "Splash" as Coach Malzahn, but a pretty big "Splash" none the less) and will definately help Coach Chizik, so that he won't have to worry about the defense.....All of the time, meaning that, he knows it'll be in great hands when he needs to do his Head Coaching duties.

My only question is, what position will he coach or will he be just the DC leaving the DL and DB positions open for coaches to be named, possibly tonight or tomorrow?

I am having a problem getting excited about this hire.  Don't feel bad about it but do not feel overwhelmed with joy either.

Prattville beat the breaks off of Gwinnett County in 2006. Gwinnett is overrated.
