WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Birmingham has been chosen to host the 2009 first-round Davis Cup tie between the United States and a Roger Federer-led Switzerland squad.
The matches will take place March 6-8 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Arena, which is expected to seat more than 17,000 for the best-of-five series.
It's the first time a Davis Cup match will be played in Alabama.
Federer, the 13-time Grand Slam singles champion, has said he will play in the first round for the first time since 2004.
