Title: What's our record in 2009?
Post by: Ogre on December 16, 2008, 03:13:31 PM
I know it's early, but we don't have a bowl game to discuss.  Here is our tentative schedule for next year:

9/5: West Virginia
9/12: Mississippi State
9/19: Kentucky
9/26: Ball State
10/3: @Tennessee
10/10: @Arkansas
10/17: Southern Miss
10/24: @LSU
10/31: Ole Miss
11/7: Furman
11/14: @Georgia
11/21: OPEN
11/28: Alabama

The only sure win I see is Furman.  We should beat Mississippi State, Kentucky, Ball State, and Southern Miss.  Toss ups against West Virginia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Arkansas and maybe LSU.  Sure losses against Georgia and Alabama.

I can see anywhere from a 3-9 to a 7-5.  History says we'll have another losing season in 2009.  Can Chizik buck the trend?

Without having a coach in place right now I see 3-9

9/5: West Virginia  W (The element of surprise on offense combined with a salty D out to prove something sets the tone for the season)
9/12: Mississippi State  W  Low scoring, but not as low as the '08 version.
9/19: Kentucky  W  Tough game, but defense stops the cats
9/26: Ball State  W  Much tougher than expected, but the offense shines for the first time
10/3: @Tennessee  L  Hard-fought, low scoring game that is lost in the last minutes
10/10: @Arkansas  W  Defense gets revenge for '08 home loss to the piggies
10/17: Southern Miss  W  Close until the 4th quarter
10/24: @LSU  L  Another hard-fought close game lost in the 4th quarter
10/31: Ole Miss  L  Defense is weary, Snead and company find holes in the Tampa 2
11/7: Furman  W  Ho hum
11/14: @Georgia  L  Auburn nation gets more impatient about this rivalry
11/21: OPEN
11/28: Alabama  W  Tough game that is won in the 4th quarter

8-4 and a berth in the Chickin Bowl or maybe the Outback

i'll be a tad bit more optimistic though not like buzz.

4-8.

1-7 in conference.

If Chiz comes in with an OC that has the ability to make the most of what talent we have (We have some talent but no bona fide playmakers on offense) I could see us doing a bit better. A couple of notes:

WVU loses Pat White.  He has been da' man for that team.  Gives anyone a chance with him gone.

MSU sux. And...they suck.

Kentucky...who knows?

Ball State loses one bad ass mo fo of a QB in Nate Davis.  He was their team.

UT and Arky will be tough simply because they're on the road but neither of those teams is worth a shit and I think Arky loses their Dick, don't they?

USM...we should win.  AU handled them better than any team on the schedule last year.

LSU...LOSS

Ole Miss....LOSS

Furman...FURMAN

UGA is on the road.  We're not as talented.  LOSS

Bama is at home.  I'm not throwing in the towel on this one.  JPW is gone.  Andre Smith and Caldwell are gone as well.  This is not smack for any Bama fans reading and it's not delusion.  I'm saying that Bama did two things very well this year.  Play defense and run the freakin' ball right at you.  They did both very well.  And they did a lot of running over two stud OLinemen.  I want to see how they retool that line and what our new OC has for anyone before I concede a game at the end of the year.

9/5: West Virginia L
9/12: Mississippi State  W
9/19: Kentucky W/L tossup
9/26: Ball State L
10/3: @Tennessee L
10/10: @Arkansas L
10/17: Southern Miss W
10/24: @LSU L
10/31: Ole Miss W/L tossup
11/7: Furman W
11/14: @Georgia L
11/21: OPEN
11/28: Alabama L

3-5 wins. I could have put MSU as a tossup but didn't. So five wins would be a miracle.

6-6 with losses to:

~Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU (because they either have better talent or better coaching)
~West Virginia (because our expectations are high but we are ill-prepared to implement Chizik's new systems at the start of the year, and it results in a Franklin-like implosion)
~Southern Miss (an upset, and a close one at that, but they are a young team that returns many starters and a second year coach in Larry Fedora that won't make the same mistakes against a weakened Auburn squad)

Perhaps I could be talked into swapping my predicted wins against KY and MSU with the losses against LSU and Ole Miss, but I just don't see anything better than a 6-6 season (4-4 in conference play).  And I believe our wins over MSU/KY/Ball State will be very close games.

They lose their big Dick, but who knew?  Big Dick has a little brother, Little Dick, who actually played some for them this year...  see, Dick, Nathan... Freshman QB

Wins against Miss. St, Kentucky, Furman, Ball State, Southern Miss. Losses against Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU, UGA and probably Alabama. Toss up West Virginia and Ole Miss (although with the way they are recruiting and playing at the end of last year, I would probably feel better about putting this as a loss).

We better go at least 5-7 and have the possibility of going 7-5.

I will say this though, if we get a good QB and establish a good running game, I think we will be abe to compete with everyone on the schedule. Auburn has the talent RIGHT NOW to compete. My worries are in 2010 and betond with the way this recruiting disaster is going. We will see how affective Chizik can be on the recruiting trail...he needs to step up big time...and RIGHT NOW!!!!

9/5: West Virginia --- Tossup, they lose White and could struggle a little next year.
9/12: Mississippi State  --- Win.
9/19: Kentucky --- Tossup, I am not for sure how much they return.
9/26: Ball State --- Win, I give us the benefit of the doubt in this one.
10/3: @Tennessee --- Tossup, although I was surprised they were no better than they were this past year.
10/10: @Arkansas --- Loss, They beat us this year and I think they are improving under CBP.
10/17: Southern Miss --- Win, although it will be too close for comfort for me.
10/24: @LSU --- Tossup, I don't know if it is wishful thinking or what, I think they will blow next year.
10/31: Ole Miss --- Loss, they were not that bad this year and will more than likely be better next.
11/7: Furman --- Win
11/14: @Georgia --- Loss, they will be pretty good again next year.
11/21: OPEN
11/28: Alabama ---Loss, although I don't think we will see a blowout like we did this year.

I think we see 4 for sure L's but I am wishful on the Tossup's but then again, that is why I have them as Tossup's.

Ummm...lil' Dick is transfering...old Dick is gone.

But if you watched the Dicks play, you would realize that this is not a 'well fook we are losing a senior qb'

Thank God for Ryan Mallett.

I didn't even know Arkansas HAD two Dicks until the LSU game - and honestly?  I could give two dicks about them both - I don't exactly keep up with those Dicks so I had no clue that the "little 'un" moved on since "big 'un" graduated, or whatever passes for "gittin outta skewl" in Arkansas...   :)

you didn't ask me, but then, that has never stopped me before.

we are currently attempting to load up on dt's and de's in our recruiting class, who will most likely will have to play right away.  that should tell you a lot.  the defense will be an absolute question mark right up until the first game is done.  literally no idea, but I for one am not optimistic.  I think half the battle will be if Robinson is retained as DC and if Botkin is retained as ST coordinator, but the reality is that we just don't have SEC ath-a-letes on that side of the ball yet.

our offense, however, should be as good as Arkansas has seen in it's history.  hopefully, we can texass tech everyone, and I don't mean OU-texass tech, but you know, oklahoma state-texass tech.  realistically, 2010 remains the target year, though I do think we will be a 7 or 8 win team in 09.

He said it pretty well, we are thin, and young...but there is some talent.

I'm not completly sold on our defensive coordinator, but he was dealt a pretty shitty hand  talentwise.

Nutt absolutely left the cupboard bare.

To really hammer home my homerific appeal, Mallett is green at Arkansas, but not green to college football.  The kid started 2/3 of a season at Michigan.  Not quite the same as the SEC, but not exactly bush league.
