I can't figure this out. What happened to 2008? We went from being nationally respected, top recruiting classes, tremendous SEC success, annual top 15 preseason rankings, 7-3 over our rival to a debacle in recruiting, a 5-7 season, a debacle on our coaching staff, the loss of a decent coach (with hopes for a BETTER one), and finally, the icing on the cake, the hiring of Gene Chizik.

If he's the defensive coordinator, I commend you for an excellent hire, and I await the announce of the head coach. There's your case.
Gene Chizik is not "unproven." He has PROVEN that he cannot run a successful football program. At Auburn, we don't desire excuses hence why there was an outcry for Tuberville's position to be terminated. Why his team was 0-8 in the Big 12 North has no merit and should not be taken into consideration. The fact is that he couldn't cut it. As a high school educator, I promote the philosophy held by innovators such as Ralph Waldo Emerson that one can't expect to succeed by waiting on the perfect situation. Those who are successful fight through adversity. My students who accept that notion end the school year with grades to post on the refridgerator. Those who don't succeed often have outside reasons such as "my 9th grade English teacher didn't go over that kind of stuff" or "You gave me too much homework, which put me in a difficult situation to succeed" and etc.
Gene Chizik had the opportunity to prove himself as a head coach of a big time football program. He failed. He did not fight through adversity. Even IF he was dealt a 2-7 (worst hand in Texas Hold Em Poker), he could have salvaged something. Winning ZERO games is not what anybody wants.
If Tuberville indeed did not want to be the coach here anymore, it was YOUR responsibility to change his mind. If Tuberville indeed was fired, then it was YOUR responsibility to have someone BETTER to replace him. You've chosen a coach who has failed at an FBS school.

I just left a store in a mall where an Alabama fan announced the hiring in a loud and gleeful voice. Most didn't understand his happiness, but the few who did expressed shock or they laughed out loud. I had nothing to say.
I am sitting in my truck in the parking lot now on the verge of tears. Tears of anger and tears of frustration.
I love Auburn. I loved Auburn through the Barfield years. I cannot love the joke this motherfucking FOOL Jay Jacobs and this RETARD Jay Gouge are allowing Auburn to become. Even in our darkest days I've been proud to wear the colors. Not now. I am ashamed and embarrassed.
I will no longer wear my Auburn gear. I am removing the AU stickers from my vehicles. I will not replace them until Jacobs is fired. I have attended my last Auburn game until Jacobs is fired.
I won't be posting here much longer either. I simply cannot deal with this. What had Auburn done for God to punish us so?

Completely and totally frustrated...the guy made a lateral move and left us in the lurch after the 2004 season and now we're hiring him as the head coach after he won an Ears Whitworth-esque 20.8% of his games.
I'll just keep sending my $150/$200 to the College of Science and Mathematics.

I am writing to express my disgust, disappointment and total dissatisfaction with the horrible head coaching hire you boneheads just made. I am so upset right now that I am near tears. Auburn is now officially a laughing stock. This makes the Alabama coaching disasters look like CHILD’S PLAY. At least in the end, Alabama got a decent coach out of it. You idiots have just condemned Auburn to at least three more years of mediocrity. This is the worst possible hire you could have made. You fired Tommy Tuberville for CHIZIK? Unreal. UNREAL. I just cannot wrap my mind around this. Right now I am just SO GRATEFUL that I live in Texas and do not have to go to work Monday and face the hordes of bammer fans that are laughing their collective asses off at Auburn right now. So much for winning any Iron Bowls as long as Saban continues to stalk the sidelines at Tuscaloser.
Everyone from the state to national media said we needed a big hire – a splashy, energetic, gutsy coach that would fire up recruits, win games and re-unite the fan base. Someone without baggage, someone that is a proven success as a head coach, even if it is at a lower tier school. Turner Gill was the right choice – on so many levels even the goobers at ESPN could see it.
But you idiots hire Gene Chizik – a coach who made an already awful Big 12 team WORSE during his tenure there – oh, yeah, let’s hurry and hire him before someone else does!!! Please. You jerks hired him because of his connection to the 2004 season. In other words, you have done something that we Auburn folks traditionally make fun of bammer for – we hired from the “family”, we hired from our “Past”. Nice move, morons. Now we are just like bammer.
I am a proud Auburn fan, but you will not see me in a seat at JHS, nor will you see my money in any other area of Auburn University, until Jay Jacobs is FIRED and Chizik scurries back to whatever waste of space school will take him. I realize I am no Bobby Lowder when it comes to getting my way at Auburn by threatening to withhold my money and my support, but let me just say that there are a large number of my friends and fellow alums who feel just like I do. It may take a lot of us to equal Bobby Lowder, but when push comes to shove, Bobby Lowder’s ass (the one with all of your lip prints all over it) will only fill one seat at a time. Unless he buys a lot of tickets, it will be hard for him to equal us in sheer numbers.
So, what do you do now? You lay in the bed of rotten meat and empty seats you just made. And while you do, enjoy the taste of losing games. Enjoy the roars of laughter coming from our toothless brethren that wear the crimson and white. Enjoy the headshaking and the “WTF?” coming from the media and the many fan based websites out there.
Enjoy mediocrity, boys. Thanks to this incredibly stupid and shortsighted hire, that’s just what you gave us Auburn fans for Christmas.

In saying that I have to ask, we gave up Tuberville for this shit? What the fuck happened to Turner Gill, Paul Johnson, Gary Patterson, Jim Grobe, who ever else we wanted to talk to? For Christ sake I would have rather had Brady Freaking Hoke than the shit we have just hired. Damn, damn, damn you Jay Jacobs! I actually called Kaos earlier just to talk to him about it and vent... I could tell he was shaken also... Why the fuck should I pay 440 bucks to watch a dysfunctional office run a program into the ground, when it would take me a 10 hour drive each way to watch that team, when I can watch the St Louis Rams front office do the same thing, but only 20 minutes away, at a fraction of the cost. And I fucking hate the Rams.

A serious suggestion for those of you who are completely disgusted with the asswipery that is our athletic department...direct your current AU-budgeted money to academic departments if you decide to drop season tickets or reduce athletic donations.
Better yet, pledge $0.25...kind of like leaving a dime for a tip for a waitress who gives you shitty service.

Awful...just awful. I'm a Hog fan but feel sorry for you guys. Last year when we were looking for a new coach (thank God) it was a time of nervousness, wondering who they were going to get...then wondering who they were going to be ABLE to get. Worried about the future of the program, worried about everything. We as fans got lucky. You guys as fans got screwed.
I didn't understand Tuberville's firing, but I really don't understand this hire.

The one thing that is absolutely unexplainable is how our program has FAILED to hire a coach that was better than CTT. It was an absolute abomination, an embarrassment, and as said before, all monetary donations should be redirected to academics.

As was said earlier, we need to direct our venom at the Jays. Can't blame Chizik for accepting a winning lottery ticket. You know, I kept thinking all this time that the hatred and BS that's been flung Jacobs' way, was over the top. I kept thinking that people are just disagreeing because he doesn't always handle things the way they thought he should. He has to have Auburn's best interest at heart and he's gonna' show us all with this hire. Right? I mean, this hire is absolutely critical...right? He can't fuck this up. There's 4-5 up and coming coaches out there he can choose from that certainly would get the job done. Even theough there are no BIG name coaches supposedly on the market, $3-$4 million could lure a Butch Davis, Steve Spurrier, Paul Johnson etc. to Auburn. Without a doubt, this is a HUGE opportunity for JJ to turn us back around and send Auburn into a new era of success.

Ames is a tough sell, but Jacobs has put Chizik in a very uncomfortable situation. If CGC wasn't securing a top notch OC when the wheels touched down at Auburn International, he's already behind the power curve. This dude has some hard work ahead of him.
