Chizik leaps to the top of the list in Auburn's search for a head coach

Gene Chizik has emerged as a leading candidate in Auburn’s search for a head football coach to replace Tommy Tuberville, who resigned on Dec. 3 after 10 seasons.
The deal is not yet done, but sources at Auburn and Iowa State told AuburnUndercover.com that Chizik, who was Auburn’s defensive coordinator from 2002-2004, could be offered the job within a matter of days.
Chizik won the Frank Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach after Auburn went 13-0 in 2004. He left after that season to become defensive coordinator at Texas, and the Longhorns went 13-0 in 2005 and beat USC in the Rose Bowl to win the national championship.
Chizik was named Iowa State head coach after the 2006 season, and his two seasons there have been struggles. The Cyclones were 3-9 in 2006 and 2-10 this season. Late in the 2008 season, Chizik addressed those struggles.
"Obviously there’s a lot of pressure to win fast and early," Chizik said. "I think it depends on what the demands and the history of the school are, too. Certain schools are going to be a little more patient than others simply based on history. The bottom line is people are going to get anxious. Again, I think it boils down to the administration, how they see it, what they see, what their time frame is that they’re going to give you in terms of turning things around.
"I have a phenomenal athletic director and president. Obviously, no one’s happy with a two-win season, but they understand the situation."
Chizik, no doubt, is aware that Auburn is one of those schools that won’t be patient.
When Tuberville resigned after winning 85 games in 10 seasons, Jacobs began his search for a replacement. He has interviewed at least eight candidates. They include Buffalo head coach Turner Gill, Texas Christian head coach Gary Patterson, Georgia assistant head coach Rodney Garner, Louisiana Tech head coach Derek Dooley, Miami offensive coordinator Patrick Nix, Tulsa head coach Todd Graham, Ball State head coach Brady Hoke and Chizik.
Chizik, from Clearwater, Fla., graduated from the University of Florida in 1985. He lettered as a Gator linebacker in 1981. He started his coaching career at Seminole High School in 1986.
CHIZIK’S COLLEGE COACHING HISTORY
1990-1991: Middle Tennessee State defensive ends coach.
1992-1995: Stephen F. Austin linebackers coach.
1996-1997: Stephen F. Austin defensive coordinator.
1998-2001: Central Florida defensive coordinator.
2002-2004: Auburn defensive coordinator.
2005-2006: Texas defensive coordinator.
2007-2008: Iowa State head coach.
If this isn't a smokescreen, I might purposefully drink myself into a coma. Hopefully I'll wake up three years down the road when AU is completing their next coaching search. :puke:

If we hire Gene Chizik, I will cancel my season tickets and not give another fucking dollar to Auburn until Jay Jacobs has been fired.
-
Raven tiger is somewhere whacking off at high speed right now.
This is fucking pathetic.
-
What. The. Fuck.
I will be so fucking pissed. This would be my absolute last choice of all the names I have heard...this disgusts me...
-
Its obvious that we are scraping the bottom of the barrel now.
-
This Jacobs fellow is doing a fine job. It's obvious he is in touch with the alumni, fans, and is trying his very best to bring in only the most qualified candidate as the next head coach.
-
Of every name I have heard, including Mike Leach, Chizik is the absolute last person in the world I would want. This is a clusterfuck of a magnitude that can only be imagined. This is shoot yourself in the face bad.

Maybe Jacobs and Co are putting out a bunch of bullshit since the Muschamp debacle. Whatever the case may be, I will definitely be watching a lot of NFL football next year if Gene Chizik gets hired.

maybe they are going to bring him in as a DC. there has been so much shit circulating, does anybody really know fact from fiction at this point? do you guys really really really feel Chizik will be it? something has to give, because they can't seriously see Chizik as an upgrade or being close to the same. it would be like us firing Saban to bring Shula back. but then again, before Saban was hired, i wouldn't have put something like that past our AD. they could fuck up a soup sandwich given the opportunity.

Yeah there are multiple rumors out there -
The three that seem reasonable concerning Chizik:
1. Gene Chizik sucks at ISU and wants out. He'll be our new defensive coordinator.
2. Gene Chizik sucks at ISU and wants out. Auburn has run out of options for HC. He'll be our new head coach.
3. Smokescreen.

i figured yall would have somebody by yesterday morning anyway, so who the hell knows. i do know that if you guys hire Chizik as HC, it will make me a happy man.

This would be a disaster. Heck, we could at least give a holler to Bobby Johnson at Vandy. He is already a head coache in the SEC and showed he can take a crappy team and win at least of half the games. Still confuses me why Johnson does not get his shot. Heck, coaches in much lesser and weaker conferences, with what equals about the same amount of success as Johnson, are supposedly getting interviews.
Taking a Vandy team to 6-6 in the SEC is just as good as taking Buffalo to 8-5 in the Mid-American or Wake Forest to 7-5 in the ACC. Right?

the only difference is 6-6 in Vandy's eyes is pretty damn good. have a few 6-6 season in Auburn and that gets your ass fired. he's fairly secure in his job at Vandy.....he's not gonna rock the boat.

The point is, if he can go 6-6 in the SEC at Vandy, than what can he do at a school at Auburn with better talent? He is a football coach and he probably has career goals like everybody else. I think it absurd to think he wants to stay at Vandy where he is "safe". I bet if he got an interview and was offered the Auburn job, he would take it in a heartbeat.

Hiring Chizik would be the worst hire EVER!

Good contribution, Diane.

if he would take the job in a heartbeat, then why the fuck are we sitting here talking about Gene Chizik when you guys have interviewed like 7 people? either AU's AD is just that stupid, or, not everybody just wants to break their necks to get to Auburn, AL. i can't imagine them making a dumbshit hire like Chizik unless they just absolutely had no other choice.

According to rivals he is the guy. It is on the rivals site. I am too pissed to get the link and am assuming it will turn out to be an erroneous report. If not Auburn Univ. has lost its everloving motherfucking mind.

I'm hearing that the paper work has been signed by everyone except for Gouge....Chizik will be coming to Auburn. If this is True.....The Auburn fanbase will Riot in Auburn and I'll be at the front of the pack. Get ready to see some UAB size attendances...first come, first serve. Also, TPTB just waved the white flag for the upcoming Ironbowls and recruiting. Hindenburg II
