Title: What's on your Christmas iPod?
Post by: Kaos on December 08, 2008, 10:46:36 PM
Ten songs on my Christmas iPod:

1) Christmas in Hollis -- Run DMC.  Awesome song.

2) Chestnuts -- Nat Cole. Vintage

3) Peanuts Christmas -- That piano guy. Drags me back to third grade.

4) Santa Claus is Comin' -- Bruce Springsteen. Fuck the guy on everything else, but Silvio Dante of the Sopranos is rockin' this tune.  Classic.

5) Rudolph -- Gene Autry. There's only one version.

6) Happy Christmas -- Lennon.  I like war. So what? I know he's a peacenik and all, but I like the song.

7) Spirit of Christmas -- Ray Charles. That scene in Christmas Vacation with the home videos gets me every time.

8) Have Yourself, -- Crosby.  Bing is Christmas.

9) Please Come Home for Christmas -- Eagles.  I always wanted to be Don Henley.

10) Oh Holy Night -- John Berry.

Honorable Mention:
Let it Snow, The Grinch, Carol of the Bells, Silver and Gold, White Christmas (Bing and also Drifters versions).

Outstanding list.  Maybe a few adjustments here and there.  Aaron Nevil's version of "Please Come Home For Christmas" is killer, but I like the Eagle's version as well.    I love the old style crooners like Bing, Cole, Sinatra and Dean Martin.

I do get in the mood for the Manheim Steamroller music as well.... Greensleeves by MS is unbelievable.  Gets me in the Christmas mode quickly.

Christmas in Hollis is the only Christmas themed song on my ipod.
In High School I worked for a local drug store part time and around the Holidays...I got soooooooooooo tired of hearing the same stuff over and over again that I still hate, that's right...I said hate, Christmas music.  I love to hear the Church Choir singing on Christmas Eve, but other than that you can have it.

I strongly recommend Gary Hoey for some serious Christmas guitar work.  I posted the youtube 12 days of Christmas but it wouldn't work here.  Go forth to Youtube and crank it to volume setting #11.

I have just about every Christmas song there is, recorded from a wide variety of artists:

Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Mannheim Steamroller
John Williams
Enya
Garth Brooks
The Chipmunks
Lonestar
Amy Grant
Michael W. Smith
Third Day
Casting Crowns
Relient K
Jars of Clay
Neil Diamond
Harry Connick Jr.
Frank Sinatra
Nat King Cole
Irving Berlin
Gene Autry
Paul McCartney
Billy Idol (yes he put out a Christmas album)
Elvis Presley
Jimmy Buffett
Alabama
...and various other music from artists I can't remember.

I store all my music (54 GB-10,000 songs) on external hard drive and have a Christmas music folder separate from all my artists folders and it is around 2 GB.

I usually purchase at least one newly released Christmas album every year and this year it was the Casting Crowns album.

"Little Drummer Boy" is my favorite Christmas song and the two groups that have made the best recent versions that I listen too is by Lonestar and Jars of Clay

It doesn't do them justice, unless you have the video.

I did. Except I submitted the video for Funky Funky Christmas that just features the studio version with a picture of the album cover. That way you can hear that masterpiece as it was intended.

Jacobs stole it.  Chizik just opened our present and showed us the box of shit.

BTW, I bought a CD of Cajun Christmas.  It almost got me out of the funk, but not quite.
