Goddamn, I'll miss Uecker.  Loved listening to him call a game.  Catcher in the Wry is one of the best baseball books I've ever read.

Read it as well.  Uecker was a national treasure.  Me and my pops used to love it when he was a guest on the Tonight Show.  His self-deprecating brand of humor was so good. It's ironic that last night, I sent my dad a video of one of his appearances with Carson.  Prime example was Johnny held up a series of pictures, asking Uecker to comment on the setting.

He holds one up of a locker room celebration, with champagne, cigars etc.  Johnny asks, "Is this a World Series celebration?"

Uecker without cracking a smile...."No, that's before the game when they heard I wasn't in the line up."
