Connery was a badass Bond. Think he’s my favorite. The accent is iconic.
Moore had the best movie lineup as the character. I’d drop him in at #2.
Brosnan lands at number 3 because he was my childhood Bond. 006 is also my favorite Bond villain.
Craig played the role well, but I always struggled thinking of him as Bond. A tradition of Brunettes broken by a blonde. Blonde, James Blonde.
Dalton…. Ewwwww. Butt chin is distracting.

Moore/Connery gave the cinematic character visibility and iconic status.
I prefer Craig because he's more true to the Fleming character and he's far more interesting.

See, when we translate a character from a source (book, magazine, etc.), I don't want a transliteration. I'm open for interpretations. It's why I find the Bond character so fascinating. Each iteration is both a sign of the times and a take on the source but with each actor bringing something combined with the writers, directors, and especially the producers.
In summary, I don't need it to be page to screen. You didn't ask but just in case you were curious, here's my ranking.
Connery/Lazenby
Moore
Brosnon
Dalton
Craig

Gonna' be the wet blanket here. 007 movies are much like the Batman flicks to me. Once you start changing actors every time, it loses all appeal for me.

Moore will always be Bond to me, just because he was Bond when I started watching Bond movies.
Craig is #2. Casino Royale exceeded every expectation I had for the character.

saying Craig is better feels like a fresh, hot take from reddit...i get it but when someone says bond the resonance is connery.
moore was solid and live or let die is my second favorite bond movie, goldfinger sitting at the top.

I guess I’m kind of not in a place to judge.
I watched (and have continued to watch) Connery’s films. I enjoyed Roger Moore’s movies too, but a little less because they were stuffed with bad 70s cheese. Like an episode of Six Million Dollar Man.
After Moore quit I didn’t care. Watched part of one with Dalton I think. Know I watched part of one with Craig - and laughed at his awful duck face performance before bailing on it. Don’t give a single hair off a rat’s butt about how “book true” he is. I found his performance to be effete and inauthentic.

Because it's the same timeline/era/iteration of the Bond character. The film goes out of its way to remind the audience this is the same guy from Goldfinger, Thunderball, Dr. No, From Russia, etc. with the props, the opening titles with scenes from previous films. They wanted that to be Connery and he left. When it flopped, they went right back to Connery in Diamonds Are Forever, which is kind of like the KISS Alive III album of his time.
Every other Bond is playing a different version of the character. Connery/Lazenby are the same guy.

Yeah, been using the Pluto service to watch these for a Film Strip series I'm co-hosting/producing for 2025. Good to see them out there.
Also comforting to see Barbara Broccoli stand her ground and not let Amazon do to James Bond what Disney did to Star Wars.
