Heisman finalists:
Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel
73.2 completion percentage, 3558 yards (led Big 10), 28 touchdowns (led Big 10), 6 interceptions, 192 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns
Colorado WR/DB Travis Hunter
92 receptions (led Big 12), 1152 yards, 14 touchdowns (led Big 12), four interceptions, 11 passes defended (led Big 12)
Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty
2497 rushing yards (led FBS), 29 rushing touchdowns (led FBS), 116 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown
Miami (FL) QB Cam Ward
67.4 completion percentage, 4123 yards, 36 touchdowns (led FBS), seven interceptions, 196 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns
First time in seven years the SEC does not have a representative.
Who would you vote for?
-
Hunter
Jeanty
Errbody else.
-
a little blue tarnish on the trophy.
-
Hard not to vote for Hunter given how good he was on both sides of the ball. But, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes to Jeanty. Those stats are Alvin Henderson level sick.

Jeanty is no Cencade Pennington or Markeith Cooper that's for sure.
Sorry, not sorry, but I'm just not over the moon about that dude. He gets the ball 35-40 times a game. All the teams he played against aren't all that good (Oregon the lone exception) and again, he built those stats over a boat load of carries in a boat load of games against the Mountain West. That's not the Big Ten, the SEC, or even the ACC for that matter. He's a good player but I'm not sure he's Heisman quality. For that matter, neither is Gabriel or Ward.
Hunter really is the guy this year.
-
no Cencade Pennington
Funny story here.....he's my daughter's track coach.
I'm no giant or tall (like Snags). But I feel like both standing next to him. Between him and The Lizard and others, it's amazing how small/short a lot of the players were in that era under Wes....I mean, Tot.

Creating players in my own image.
The power coursing through my veins.
I'll see you all at Bottcher's for the after-after party.

He scrapped everything that made him successful, so he could be just like Diddy. He was searching hard for a Warrick Dunn clone, and leaving a 225 pound bruiser in Fred Beasley, on the bench.

Beasley and or Davis should have won lots of trophies. Sad really.

Beasley and or Davis should have won iots of trophies. Sad really.
Yep. And Beasley played 8 seasons with the 49ers, and was named all-pro at fullback in two seasons. But, he was only good enough to ride the bench in Bowden's offense.

Speaking of fullbacks, remember Tony Richardson? He was on the short list for NFL HoF for a few years. Not sure he ever made it in but I remember a cold game against Arkansas where he and Reid McMillan made some big plays.
I miss fullbacks like I miss good chain restaurants.

Ahhh, Bottchers. Good times. What's there now?

We should go back to the wishbone. Or the Power-I.
FWIW? I have no interest in the Heisman. None of them have the physical tools of a Bo, Cam, Herschel. None of them are "great" or enduring in any sense of the words. Just some mid, meh, somewhat decent players. Hunter is the worst of that bunch, but has the screaming ESPN hype.

Say what you want but that breakfast bar had an epic run of greatness.

We still have a Shoney's here that's hanging by a thread. Can't believe it's still open. But, back in the day, Shoney's was the shizznit.

I worked at Alvin's Island during my latter high school years and my boss was the fucking best. She'd constantly send me out for errands that I could turn into a four hour break to hang with my friends.
Anywhoo...one of her favorite errands was for me to run to Shoneys and get that strawberry pie for us all to devour in the breakroom in about 3 minutes.

Alvin's Island. Greatest collection of useless crap on the planet. Love that place.

Oh, I didn't work with the hoi polloi down in "souvenirs". I was upstairs, in apparel. Spent most of my days chatting up girls and offering (solicited) opinions on their bikini options.
Life was good.

As a kid, one of the highlights of our Panty Bra City vacations, was a trip to Alvin's, the one with the volcano at Miracle Strip Amusement Park. Look Dad, it's a monkey made out of a coconut. Can we buy it, pleeeeease. No wait, I want that alligator head. Oooooo....hermit crabs.

Jeanty

Hard to disagree here though....Hunter is legit. People forget he was he number 1 HS player In the country when he spurned FSU for Deion.

Don't agree on Hunter not being legit. Hes a physical freak. Was in HS as well. No, not a Bo, Herschel or even Deion. But hes a legit good FB player. Has been for a while.

Magic Mountain.
They tore it down a few years ago (think it got a lot of damage from Michael). Kind of sad to look at that intersection now and see....nothing. No Alvins. No Miracle Strip Park.

^^This^^ A lot of memories in that area.
-
I bought a book a few years back that covers the history of the PC, Destin and Ft. Walton areas. Basically starts when it was 95% beach, with a few small rental houses, and how it all developed over the years. It covers Goofy Golf, Miracle Strip Amusement Park, Petticoat Junction, Gulf World, the hotels and restaurants, and just about anything you can think of. Complete with tons of pictures, including my favorite attraction at Miracle Strip, The Old House.
Once I finally got the guts to go in, I'd go through that thing 10-15 times a night. Took me years before I finally got the nerve to ride through The Haunted Castle.

There's a film history of the region (focused more on FWB/Destin) done by my buddy Shane Reynolds called "Sand in my Soul." Worth a look if you can find it.

I go by it all the time. It brings back memories of long ago.
And truthfully, Alvin’s island was really popular because it was neat…and air conditioned! Damn it was hot back then also! For miracle strip, it was a refreshing ride in the abominable snowman that allowed the second part of the journey to continue.

Goddammit, I miss Auburn.

Didn't you post that on the bookfaces a while back?

I did. He premiered the film during COVID lockdown, so we had a drive-in movie showing.
It's really well done and, even though I've lived here for the bulk of my life, I learned some interesting shit.

I think I did watch it, but honestly, don't recall much about it. I'll have to track it down and give it a look see again.

In other news that has nothing to do with this thread, SF 49ers' linebacker, De'Vondre Campbell, was sent in the game last night against the Rams. He told the coach he didn't want to play, and walked off the field. The comments from his, most likely, former teammates are less than praiseworthy for Mr. Campbell.

Is that Mrs Campbell’s boy? Always knew he was a lazy one.
