Are you coming from South America?
If not, it’s a short flight.
Take a nap.

Where are you wanting to fly out of? Can’t remember if you are in Turd Town or Charlotte.

Air travel has gone from a luxury to cattle-car mass transit.  Disassociate however you can manage.  My personal regimen is: weed gummy when I park the car in long-term, pre-flight beers (no more than 3...or you'll spend your flight in the pisser), then noise-cancelling headphones and music.  Eyes closed, even if not napping.  I'm not trying to make a lifetime connection on this fucking flight.

That flight isn't long enough to concern yourself with any of those things.  Get on, create distance by wearing an aggravated scowl, and get off.

Charlotte. Left West Vance in the dust end of June.

When's your birthday?

Good Lord.  This thread is not about me, and I won't make it about my birthday, in 21 days.

But, you know what would be a great gift, congratulating someone for running a marathon, or some other great accomplishment, or even something simple like a birthday, not on August 29th.  Gift cards. They're great because the person who ran that marathon....or other things, can get what they want, instead of you trying to pick out something I would they would like.

Also, lot of sandy vag in this thread from the Statler & Waldorf crowd. The OP didn't mention the reason for travel. I only brought that up when I got offered drugs. As Nancy Reagan taught me, I just said "No" but felt context would be helpful.  :laugh2:

You can get from your house, go through the ridiculous procedure that is Charlotte TSA, to your gate, on a plane, fly to Philly, deboard, grab a smashburger (it’s not far from your gate), navigate the rental car process and drive to wherever you are staying for your 5k the next day in less than 2 hours?

Bravo.  You got me.

I can tell you that actually annoys those of us who have done them for decades and actually train to do well. The all encompassing umbrella of running boom 2.0 has herded in a lot of the “just finished” folks that never shut up about simply crossing a finish line. Not a fan. Most of your serious folks don’t talk much about it.

I wholly, fully, and categorically disagree with the censorship occurring on this site by a self-appointed totalitarian.  It's out of bounds.

You serious Clark??

He may have had several members of his family who died at the hands of the censoring nazi regime in WW2.  They didn't fight, bleed, and sacrifice so some neo-nancy could appoint itself sole arbiter of what's allowed and disallowed, particularly when the ONLY rule we're bound to uphold is to steer away from overt racism.  I think the arbitrary punishment stirred up long-buried memories and may have triggered PTSD.

Nobody asked for the editing and censorship.  Nobody sees the value in that particular brand of AUFambly Titan-esque overreach.  It's egregious.  It's offensive. It was wrong.

Frankly, its <three-day suspension>y.

Well, yeah when the whole purpose behind this site when we all came over was to be the antithesis of that kind of crap.....it's irony. It was a breath of fresh air frankly when I joined at your request before Chizik's first game.

Disagree, agree, feelings hurt, off color, tacky - not the point. It was allowed. The ultimate "say what's on your mind" board. A place to vent anything (within the few rules GF set) ... Why did that change?

Just for the record, you can search the word in question that caused a ban (and a few others similar) - and see it's been said quite a few times in years past by many of us. Myself included. Why now, is it bad enough to cause a ban? What changed?

And if anyone tries to scrub those posts I mentioned? I already have screenshots.

I can't speak to past usage or any perceived overreach.  We've never allowed slurs and WT went on a multi-forum, intentionally line-stepping spree.

INCORRECT, cracker head. There are no lines. Nothing to step over. We just can't/shouldn't use the n-hard-r or make overtly racist statements. That's what we agreed to, not some Titan-puss, ham-fisted overlording.

The ONLY thing we've allowed are slurs.  Constant, moderately offensive, slurs.

I'm gonna go with "not your call" and "burr up your butt" which I percieve as likely politically-based. You were pissy because Biden was exposed as a feeb.

And I ask in sincerity Wes. I'm a little confused by it. It just feels like things have changed as time has passed and I'm not sure how I feel about it truth be told. Humiliating the hell out of someone for stepping out of line (which was an indirect group vote - ALA Bham, Prowler, Whatever that Greasy dudes name was) used to be the MO. It was harsh but it worked.

As far as handling someone considered "undesirable" by some, is the humiliation method we used to use not more effective? Just asking. See my reply to Wes above. Just not a big fan of banning unless its just downright illegal or threatening.

WT is a funny guy. He's got an unusual wit. He, whatever you may have thought of his oddball sense of humor? He was one of us. Period.

We’re all dogfaces, we’re all very, very different, but there is one thing that we all have in common: we were all stupid enough to sign up for this abuse.  We’re mutants. There’s something wrong with us, something very, very wrong with us. Something seriously wrong with us – we’re X'ers. But we’re Auburn X'ers! We’ve been kicking Bammer loving ass for 200 years! We didn't have to worry about whether or not we were cultured. We didn't have to worry about whether Captain Drillpress wanted to curtail our freedom of expression. All we had to do was to be the great X'er fighting soldier that is inside each one of us.

Until TinyTitan decided to flex the micro ePenis becasue he was butthurt over politics. Targeted WT, overstepped whatever authoritie he thought he had.

But you can't hold this whole fraternity of X'ers responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole message board system? And if the whole system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our internet in general? I put it to you, Wes - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to WT, unfair as it may be, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Good day!

Totally different scenarios.  As annoying as those folks were...they didn't spam the board with a slur.

This has nothing to do with politics or my (lack of) appreciation for WT's humor...it was a fucking shotgun spray of shit.

Had ANYONE decided to mult-post in violation of our very simple rules, they'd meet the same end.  It was a fucking vacay, not a permaban.

To be clear: I'm not on a personal crusade to stamp out what I find offensive.  The two rules we have were designed to 1) minimize litigation directed at our esteemed/vacant webmaster; and 2) to not create a public-facing haven for bigots of any stripe.

Nothing has changed except one person felt like he had to go all spray-and-pray with a slur.

What if the gay guy was black?
Title: Re: I have a flight in October. What should I do?
Post by: Kaos on August 14, 2024, 04:20:08 PM
The facts are simple.

1.  WT was “suspended” for three days for using a term/phrase that is not a violation of site rules or Jeff Spicoli’s dream.

2. That phrase was, until only very recently, a regularly used jibe, and for older members of this site it is not considered a pejorative.

3. The suspension was arbitrarily enforced and was a gross abuse of power by TinyTitan.

4. To the best of knowledge no other member, particularly a frequent contributor, has ever been sanctioned in this manner.

5.  WT was personally humiliated by the sanction and as such has decided his contributing and participation in this site is no longer worthwhile.

The above being true, the following remedies are proposed:

1. TinyTitan must publicly apologize for overstepping his bounds and ask WT to return as a member in good standing.

2. If certain words and/or phrases are truly “offensive” to all as opposed to “I feel offended”  the elders of this site must meet (you know who you are) and make a majority ruling on which are prohibited. Upon such time, those new guidelines will be published on the site.

3. No extreme sanctions - banning or suspending - will be enforced without the concurrence of at least two elders.  There will be no single arbiter.  Ever.

It doesn't take a mind-reader to know that slurs in general are gonna get caught up in the rule.  As pointed out, it was kind of lightly enforced...until someone went ham and made about 20 new threads with it in the title.

You should know better than anyone that the "spirit" of the rule does not supersede the black and white letter of the law.

"Spirit" is arbitrary, subject to personal bias, and largely unenforceable.  The rule is what it says it is.

WT prevails on appeal, and the case is remanded back to the elders.  Ruling must be made on the actual codified law, not what a puffed up judge/executioner "feels" it should be.

You're suspended from the bench.

The term that got WT the boot could be construed as a simple term of disrespect or “dis”, if you will.  The spirit of his statement might not have anything to do with gay people at all.  Jeff Dye has a bit about calling things or people “gay” that explains it pretty well.  I am not going to search for it, just trust me, it’s funny as well as true.

On the other hand, WT might have just been fuckin’ with ya and meant it in the spirit in which you received it.  I don’t know.  That guy is weird but not a bad musician.  I heard he’s like a French pole vaulter and can play the national anthem with his dick.

"Spirit" is a slippery slope.

90% of what's posted here is either insulting, offensive, or demeaning.  Under the right TinyTitan microscope, we're all guilty.

The action against WT was unprecedented, egregious, and out of bounds for this site.  All TinyTitan has to do is admit he took it personally, overstepped, and apologize to WT.

Zero chance of that. Too much self-righteousness. Too much ego. He still hasn't even admitted Biden was a retard. Oh! Another slur.

To quote the esteemed Marcellus Wallace:  "Wes, that's pride <word worse than three day suspension that starts with

Bill Burr has a similar bit. He said if white people would just learn where to place the "fuck", they would save themselves so much trouble.

A black guy comes in and says, "Let me tell you what this Asian motherfucker did". I'm like, "Well, what did this Asian motherfucker do?"

A white guy comes in and says, "Let me tell you what this motherfucking Asian did."  Everybody is like, "Whoooaaa, whoooaa"

I don't know anymore. The rules seem to be evolving like an amoeba. But you are correct, the larger ladies frequent the Mart of Walls especially early in the morning. It's a reason the parking lots are always in such disrepair. That, and the rolling meth labs that set up ops there a few days at a cook.

However, ain't a dude on this site that hasn't gone hoggin' when the liquids flowed free and the time got later and later. Chris Rock had a bit about that. I'd quote it but my warn meter is already in the red and cultural appropriation would result in a third strike my PO said.

I'd quote it but my warn meter is already in the red and cultural appropriation would result in a third strike my PO said.

Stop trying to culturally appropriate WT’s line steppin’.

Tell me something I don't already know. People here don't give a shit about anything. (Except offensive words, apparently.) I could die today and no one would notice. We are weeks away from what is bound to be a mid football season. Passing the time in bullshit threads is one of the few bright spots left in the world. Or, it was.

It's part of our charm.

I noticed your sabbatical from here a few months back. I’d pour out a fo’tee for you, Big Homie.

I wish Vlad was still around.

He quit the site in protest of WT's mistreatment.

Solidarity.

I will hand deliver you a big head Franklin if you raw dog the marathon.  No Body Glide, no Band Aids, no GUs, no Tailwind, nothing but water but only the water you get at the aid stations.  No hydration vest, no baby powder, no OpenShox, no stimulus of any kind.  Blinders and ear plugs, shirt, shorts or tights, shoes and socks.

Because I care.

How about KY or Astroglide?  I'm thinking about having a marathon session with myself this weekend.

I believe we now have a new precedent.

Jarren Duran's jersey rocketed to the top of the MLB shop and is now the number one selling jersey in the league.

This AFTER he got the TinyTitan treatment for using a word that only <three day suspensions> find offensive.

What does Simon Le Bon have to do with any of this?

He hurls slurs when he's hungry like the wolf?

He hurls slurs when he's hungry like the wolf?

And shockingly doesn't get banned by a flaming liberal with a TinyTitan complex.  Amazing.

He's definitely notorious for that.

He's definitely notorious for that.

Especially when he's dancing across the Rio Grande.

Especially when he's dancing across the Rio Grande.

You have to have great reflexes to do that.
