A few short days until Fall camp cranks up, and we start getting reports and pics from practices, and it begins to move in the Haynes Underwear. Actually, I'm more of a Duluth Trading Buck Naked Boxer Briefs guy. Order you a pair. You'll thank me later.
What’s your prediction for the win total? Good or bad, what’s your reasoning? And what player do you see bustin’ loose? Kind of like Eugene “Let’s Work” Asante came out of nowhere last year.
Win Total: 9
I’m not going down the schedule and predicting each game. The reasoning is simple. We are better in so many places with this program, starting with an overall upgrade to the coaching staff. I think most believe that, while totally inexperienced, we finally have the athletes at receiver we’ve been missing forever. The O-line should be much better with a ton of experience. Not great. Certainly not dominating. But better than they’ve been in maybe 6-7 years. I think we are solid defensively from front to back, but the difference to me will be that I believe we have players who can finally get around the edge and consistently pressure the QB. Haven’t had that since Carl Lawson.
Plus, think about the fact that we won 6 games, while monkey-humping a couple of others away, including Bama, with that rag tag bunch last year. 8-9 wins is a lock.
Speaking of coming off the edge, Jalen McLeod is my breakout player. Not that he wasn’t solid last year. I think he had 5 sacks. But he’s fast and a good bit bigger this season. I also read a piece on him and how focused he is on kicking it up a notch and making it to the Show.
Whatcha’ got? Why you gots it, and who ya’ got?

The only thing between Sangs and us is a thin layer of gabardine.
8 wins. Lose to UGA, OU, Bama, and Mizzou.

Are you referring to durable twill worsted wool? That tightly woven waterproof fabric, used to make outerwear and various other garments, such as suits, overcoats, trousers, uniforms, and windbreakers?

10 wins
No dumbshit OOC losses
Better OL and better WR (dropped passes were a fucking nightmare last year)
Breakout player: Peyton Bygod Thorne. The running game will be better, the blocking better and the receiving better. With all of that going for him, the kid is a shoe-in for a 3k 25/10 type season.

Agree with the marine.

7 wins, 6 if we're lucky.
I haven't been less excited for the start in a long time well since Harsin and the best thing about that year was the side piece he had, allegedly.

6 wins. 7 if get the right breaks.
OL should be better (could it be worse?). WRs are exciting but will take time to acclimate. Lack of quality depth everywhere still matters. QB is a real problem.
Alabama A&M - W
Cal - W
New Mexico - W
Arkansas - W but closer than experts think
4-0, people are going to be over the moon. Thumping the Creed. All of it.
Oklahoma - L (Brent Venables has dismantled a lot of spread offenses especially if the QB isn't top end.)
at Georgia - L (Last year they didn't care until they needed to. Dawgs are on a mission this year.)
At 4-2 and back to reality a little, questions will arise all off week about should there be a change in certain positions.
at Missouri - L (Sleep on Drink and co. at your own risk. Defense keeps it close but continued inability to score sinks it.)
at Kentucky - Toss Up/W (Being on the road makes this hard to call but they probably figure out enough to win here.)
5-3 doesn't look that bad considering the Ls. The Kentucky game matters a lot. Being 4-4 here would be suckzone.
Vanderbilt - W (Clark Lea will be well on his way out at this point. Vandy is horrific.)
6-3 and bowl eligible, everyone breathes a little.
ULM - W (They are bad even as a G5 team.)
Texas A&M - L (Loaded team of Aggies in terms of talent that's finally getting used right.)
at Alabama - L (They are just better. Don't care about last year. Won't factor in at all).
That's 7-5, 6-6 if Kentucky goes sideways. Could there be another loss in there? Sure, but making a bowl is not unreasonable.
Wonder which coordinators/assistants will get sacked to cover for Buc-ee this year?

I don't see Missouri as a loss. I get the 11-2 record, and the enthusiasm. Like us, their first 4 games are garbage. But 2023 included:
23-19 over Middle Tennessee State at home
30-27 win at home over Kansas State on a miracle last second kick
34-27 over Memphis, again, at home
LSU hung 49 on them, while FUGA manhandled them
Then, a 33-31 win over a horrible Florida team at home.
Drink's seat was so hot, had they dropped one of those early games, he was probably gone.

They don’t play Georgia or Texas. They bring back the whole team minus the white RB. They know how to win close games (that matters). What am I missing again?
And they were not about to fire Gooby Drink. They gave him a big ass extension before the season.
-

You laugh, but I spit a dip of that very product out a few minutes before running 6 miles at 5:45 am on a regular basis. And I ain’t even a Marine.
Okay, enough physical fitness virtue signaling for today.

You are missing the fact that they are fucking Mizzou. They are good for a decent season err ten years or so.

Yep. But, they may win 9 this year. Has to be the easiest schedule in the conference. They have 3 games in which they'll most likely be underdogs. At A&M. At Bama. OU at home. Actually, I have no idea about the Sooners.
After that, Auburn at home is by far, the next toughest game.
-

Gotta get out of this old school way of thinking. Auburn isn't the Auburn you and I knew before and Mizzou isn't the Mizzou we've known since their two year splash landing in Atlanta.
Times have changed and continue to change.
My OG point is they are in better shape than Auburn right now. Getting that game in their stadium gives them the advantage. Not thinking blow out (unless Thorne "Thornes").

Used to be me, too. The dipping part, not the running for fun. Haven’t touched the stuff for almost 5 years now. Black Buffalo Zero is where it’s at if you ever wanna kick the habit.
-

Had a Staff Sergeant that led PT for our “Training Flight” when I first landed in No Hope Pope. He smoked 2 packs a day, would load up a ruck with 50-70 lbs, and would run around the Aerial Port with a gas mask on almost daily. We got to join in on the fun. 6.5 miles of fun.
However, nothing will beat the misery of the mile long bear crawl with gas masks on. If you’ve never puked in one, you’re really missing out!

My breakout player this year that nobody suspects: Champ Anthony
I was not a fan of K. Scott moving to the boundary, as I think there will be drop off there as compared to Pritchett last year. However, I’m a believer in Champ Anthony, especially if he puts on some good weight. Dude is a heat-seeking missile of “get the hell off my field, bitch.”

Nice dark horse pick. Hope you're right.
As I said, my pick is Jalen McLeod at Buck. But, it's as much a part of my wish list as anything else. We could be soooo much better if we can find somebody to get around that edge consistently and make the QB dance. Been a while. I think out of:
Jalen McLeod
Keyron Crawford -Transfer from Arky State
Jamonta Waller 6' 247 True Freshman Beast
Joe Phillips 6'2" 250 Freshman who put up sick numbers in HS
Amaris Williams 6'2" 269 Another true highly rated freshman with unreal athletic ability.
We should be able to find a couple of guys who offenses have to game plan for to keep them off the QB's back. Been a minute since we had this much talent at that position.
-
my break out player is really anyone on the team.

Agree about the Scott move to corner. That looked like a knee jerk reaction to losing so many corners to graduation and think they addressed that shortfall in the portal.
Snag's points to the edge position for breakout candidates. We know that relentless pressure is the best way to defend against the pass, last play of Iron Bowl notwithstanding.
I'm excited about the staff and the experienced personnel they have gathered like the Lewis' on offense and
the interior DT's like Raikes, Blidi etc.
We have 4 games to get it together.
Naming Thorne early dampened the enthusiasm for many of the Auburn faithful.
Maybe that changes after a successful Big Cat weekend, perception being the driving force.
Any late season mention of needing this or that win to qualify for a bowl game will be disasterous for the program. That's the reality.

I think Thorne & last year's offense is why we don't have a QB committed to us in this '25 cycle thus far. 1700 passing yards is abysmal any way you slice it and is easy to use as a negative recruiting talking point from opposing coaches. Said it to a few, but will repeat it here... Hugh better not be stubborn this year about making a change if it looks like more of the same.
That said, I am pulling for PT to be successful. At this point, where I am based off of the amateur eye test & arm chair quarterbacking, I am more confident in Hank Brown's ability to make plays.

Many hoped Walker White would come in and blow people away and establish himself as the QB of the future. Some looked at HB24-25’s performance in the Bowl game, and thought this could be the guy. Err’magrrd Gerrnerr, doesn’t seem to be in the picture.
Now, are they sitting there with a finger on a hair-trigger, ready to pull it at the first sign of Thorne retardation? Could be, but clearly, we don't have anybody who separated themselves from Thorne.
I’m of the belief that these coaches, whose huge salaries are directly tied to success on the field, are only going to put the best out there at each position, especially QB. If they thought White or HB24-25 were better options, they would put them in. U Free has been at times, brutally honest about Thorne. Even at halftime interviews, he’s basically said the guy needs to get his head out of his ass, or we’ll go a different route.
Outside of a damn good ability to run the read option, Thorne didn’t impress. However, I’m assuming the corches were well aware he didn’t have shit around him last year, and feel like he’ll be the man with a better line, better weapons and hopefully, better coaching. If not....

You can look like the goat and still throw a pick six and lose.
I think that's where we are tentatively. We are going with the experienced guy until he can't get it done. Nothing set in stone.
-
Nussmeier at LSU isn't that much ahead of Walker White in terms of experience. Old redface is taking the plunge with his guy.
I'm not sold on Thorne nor am I on Hank Brown. We saw what Johnson of TAMU did to us in one half last year...very similar to Brown's bowl game results.
So Freeze sticks with Thorne.
He has his offense, his handpicked coaches and he's calling the plays.
FULL OWNERSHIP.
If it were up to me I would get Thorne off the field as soon as a game was in hand to give Brown and White the needed reps, the reps they have earned!
I don't believe in padding a statline like it's an NFL audition. Get him off the field.

I seriously have no idea. You guys have seen them in action however limited.
You're number two in my mind is the game manager that doesn't get you beat.
It's supposed to be riskier with the unknown but it's also risky to sit on talent that other program's would welcome in a heartbeat.
I want to see White early. I'm told he has a knack of barreling by defenders in open field and definitely has the arm to match.
Also remember the Kodi Burns reports of how amazingly athletic he was in the words of his teammates.
No way of knowing until we see him on the field.
